Why did you delete criticism of the Catholic Church?

Criticism of the Catholic Church is clearly a sore point on this forum. Yes some of the historical details were wrong, but if you all can’t accept that the Church hasn’t been all good, you’re the delusional ones. I have a feeling that if the criticism had been of Islam, you wouldn’t have had as much of a problem. Am I right?

Hope I’m wrong.

Nobody ever, ever said the Catholic Church has been “all good.” We were objecting to the hate speech you spent all Friday posting.

The issue was that I wasn’t talking about the bad things about other religions, which I could have of course done. Would you have preferred that? I doubt it.

I’m sorry you were offended by my posts, but recognize that that was the reason for the measures that were taken. I admit I made historical mistakes about the origin of Christianity, but I honestly wasn’t trying to engage in hate speech. Of course the church has done good things, but it’s also done some horrific things. That was really what I was bringing up.

I could have talked about what Islam has been responsible for. Would you have had the same reaction?

You were hateful and bigoted. You made multiple historical mistakes, not just that one. Your oopsie two posts above about how you merely failed to say the Church was “all good” should clue anybody reading this into how honest you’re being about your hate posting. Which, for those of you readers who missed it, was deleted by the moderator for being “anti-Catholic diatribes.”

I wouldn’t tolerate hate speech about Islam, either. I wouldn’t tolerate hate speech about your religion, Judaism. Surprise! I’m not actually Catholic—I don’t tolerate hate speech about any religion, race or ethnicity.

Someone posted essentially a quote from the protocols of the elders of Zion on that thread. Luckily it was taken down, but it was horrible.

I asked Jeff why he took my posts down. He said it was because I singled out Catholicism. I’m sorry for that. Next time I’ll be more careful about history and will talk about all religions.

I’m sorry I wasn’t more careful. Honestly.

If you cared about hate speech against Judaism, though, you should’ve reported the anti-semitism.

I didn’t recognize the Protocols—definitely not my thing.

But it’s very surprising that you, as a victim of anti-Senitism, are so very hateful to a different religious group.

I honestly and truly was not intending to be hateful. I am sincerely sorry.

I know about the protocols because I learned about them in college. However there also were people equating Israel’s actions with Judaism. That’s anti-Semitic as well.

It’s not enough to be historically accurate. You also have to be balanced. Hate is also the complete inability to see anything good about someone else. On that score, you pretended that nobody was able to respond to your request for positive things about Catholicism.

Palestine came up on that thread. So let’s take that as an example: it’s historically accurate to say Israel is on former Palestinian lands, but wouldn’t you agree it’s totally unfair to judge your entire religion of Judaism by that? I agree that the people who rant about this at the UN are blinded by hate. That’s, unfortunately, exactly what you look like.

Israel is not Judaism. It’s just not. This is SO important to understand.

I can name a ton of other religions that have done horrible things—like the Buddhist monks killing Rohinyga Muslims—and of course Islamic terrorists, but the Israeli government’s actions are not the same thing.

The ADL considers this anti-Semitic. I’m not calling you an anti-Semite, but you need to realize what that equivalency is considered.

No. He also said it’s because you posted “anti-Catholic diatribes.” This is a direct quote and it’s right on page 1 of this thread for anyone to see. You can’t be honest about your behavior, so you’ll probably never change.

And, the prospect of you attacking all religions except Judaism is pretty awful, too.

I’m happy to criticize all religions equally. I think they are all crappy.

I was agreeing with you. See the bolded part.

If you understand this point so well, then why did you spend pages hating on the Catholic Church because of the actions of some of its leaders?

Judaism can be horrible. The Israeli government is different, but Hasidic Jews for example can be AWFUL.

The Israeli government is in the business of attacking Arabs for national security purposes and use Judaism as a foil narrative. It’s not the same thing. But I hate Israel all the same.

I was talking about the Church itself. I would never say it represents what all Catholics think, but it does represent official Catholic doctrine, does it not?

The Catholic Church includes its members. This is a very basic point.

My point about blinkered hatred stands no matter how you define it. The Church leaders have helped many millions of the sick and poor over almost two millennia, raises sponsoring art and literature. You seem unaware of this massive aide to the poor and sick, and that’s another historical gap in your knowledge. Or, more likely, you just don’t want to see it.

I’m curious. Are you the anti-Catholic poster, or somebody else.
Anonymous
Of course they have. Other religions have too. All religions have good and bad aspects.

I think it would be fair to admit the Church has done some negative things, no? Otherwise you’re also not being balanced in your outlook on this.
