If commute matters a lot to you, I wouldn't list it, especially if your plan is to go to Maury for K. If you love SWS and would send your kid there no matter where it was and want to stay through 5th grade if you got in, I'd list it #1.

+1

Then again, if you're on the eastern flank of the Maury zone, you'd actually be well located for one of the proposed locations near Benning Rd. and the one for which the SWS community is advocating. Commuting to Pleasant Plains would suck unless you work somewhere like Childrens Hospital or nearby.

1. Maury Elementary School (IB)
2. Payne Elementary School
3. Peabody Elementary School
4. School-Within-School
5. Tyler Elementary School (Dual Language)
6. Washington Yu Ying PCS
7. AppleTree PCS – Southwest
8. AppleTree PCS – Lincoln Park

How do you request proximity for Payne? I left Peabody on my list just in case.

Just curious: are you seriously thinking of doing that commute up to YY? Or is YY just on there for giggles? Not trying to be a jerk, I'm just baffled by this proposal. I have a pretty high pain threshold but this is an absolutely miserable commute. You'll basically be going from the Hill to NE DC (via N. Capitol Street or Brentwood Rd.?) to VA (via...N. Capitol to 395 or Irving to Rock Creek Pkwy). I just hope you have a VERY flexible work schedule.

OP--I removed it. I am just trying to be realistic with my list.

OP--revised...revised list. As I have mentioned before, I am ok with not getting in anywhere due to good/affordable daycare, but willing to try our luck.

1. Maury Elementary School (IB)
2. School-Within-School
3. Miner Elementary School
4. Tyler Elementary School (Dual Language)
5. Peabody Elementary School
6. AppleTree PCS – Lincoln Park
7. Payne Elementary School
8. AppleTree PCS – Southwest
9. Van Ness Elementary School

Zero chance at Tyler unless you speak Spanish already. Less than zero chance at Peabody.

I think that's a sensible decision. That commute would be hell.

If Mandarin is really your dream you could always move closer to you if you got in. But your new list looks fine. You will either get Maury, apple tree, or your current day care and all are good options!

My kid has been sitting at #1 on the Peabody waitlist IB with sibling preference since September. We moved to DC post lottery and I know it's just wishful thinking, but I keep hoping that a PK3 family moves before the end of the school year to give my kid a shot for PK4.

Pretty sure YY has a Capitol Hill bus? I'd check the DCUM forum or open another thread to check.

Don’t worry. You will definitely get into Peabody for PK-4. We sat at 37 on the waitlist for Peabody 2 years ago (IB no sibling) and never moved. We were waitlisted for PK4 (started at 17) and got a spot last year.

Yes, there is a YY Capital Hill bus, though I don’t know the exact places it stops.

I have a child at Apple Tree LP. The school is a great school. The downfall is it's just pk3 & pk4 so we are dreading the lottery again for K.

Go away, troll.

+1. Cite or get lost, you boring annoying repetitive troll.

I did not post above but I bet that this will happen next year. Just watch.

Just like you people who called troll that schools will lose head start this coming school year. Guess what? It happened.

Thanks for that To complicate things, we're moving OOB but will still have sibling preference. Here's hoping!

You will not get in OOB for PK4. No chance. I know multiple IB kids on the WL this year.
