Is Lee's birthday of some special significance to you? Do you relate to random dates of random events based on their relevance to confederate generals?

Because that's kinda weird.

Yes. I have a feeling it's not random, because I am an old white person who remembers these things.

I am in my 50s and am old enough to remember they had to make MLK day "Lee-Jackson-King Day" (1984-2000, https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lee%E2%80%93Jackson%E2%80%93King_Day), to get it passed, in VA. I worked in downtown Richmond at the time and the UDC ladies would come lay the wreaths down at their statues.

So yes, having the protest on MLK day, who advocated non-violence, seems significant. Especially since it was Lee-Jackson-King Day to any (especially) white Virginian until 2000.

Probably a simpler answer to this date. Many of these folks work and have this day off. Ever think of that?

Yes, but they have the day off unwillingly,.if they live in VA. There was so much protest against MLK day; I remembered it.

They could go on a random Saturday.

Lee Jackson Day is a holiday in the commonwealth.

I'm guessing you aren't a native?

I’m guessing a lot of the folks coming to this protest for gun rights will not be native Virginians or even residents of the commonwealth.

They should mostly be Virginians, we do this every year. I suspect a lot of the anti gunners won't be residents however.

These types always vastly overestimate their turnout. I'm guessing it will be closer to 750 than 75,000.

It will make it easier for us to confiscate their toys after we show their faces on the news. Enjoy being felons soon!

It's Lobby Day. Third Monday of January. The schedule set by the VA general assembly. The democrat-controled general assembly, btw. The protesters didn't pick the date, the general assembly did.

So you're in favor of making peaceful assembly a felony, huh?

Please, keep posting your thoughts. Please. This stuff is GOLD.

Good luck reading this from prison guntards. Your time is up and the adults are back in charge. No more playing army for you. Turn in your toys.

The only people who will show up is a bunch of old white people. Our young people and people of color don’t care about guns and don’t want them on the streets.

Our side won and we get to decide what is legal or not. Sorry you hateful racist old republitards are losing and will be in prison soon.

It’s time to make all gun owners felons and lock them up if they don’t turn them in. We won’t need to go door to door because they will inevitably be caught or turned in by their neighbors and co workers. Our side has won and Virginia is going to stay blue forever.

No one needs guns anymore and especially no assault weapons.

No one cares about crazy old people and rednecks protecting their toys. Just turn them in and get a new hobby or become a felon.

For many people who are involved in "gun culture", its more than a hobby. They see firearms as a fundamental freedom as well as a vital part of their culture and community. It's like asking someone to give up their religion, and cultural traditions. Of course people are going to be very upset about something like that.

I think those who want change fundamentally misunderstand that.

Got it. Gun culture = trash.

Good for them! Scares me that a state government is trying to ignore and overrule the us constitution. Imagine if they tried to bring back slavery. Or abolish alcohol again. Or took away a woman’s right to vote. You better believe I would be marching to the state Capitol for those things too.

It’s very helpful to have them congregate and self-identify so law enforcement can gather facial recognition, license plate, known associates, and other identifying information.

Many gun owners support common sense gun laws. What are you concerned about specifically?

What the heck is a "common sense gun law"? There are people on this forum whose idea of a "common sense gun law" is to melt them all down and make them into manhole covers. There are posters here who say that they want to confiscate all guns and put all gun owners in jail, and they think that's a "common sense gun law".

What I'm specifically concerned with are people who throw around words that they know nothing about, and want to put law-abiding citizens in jail because those citizens happen to enjoy the shooting sports. Hell, we've even got people on this forum who want to have KNIFE owners arrested.

I'm a gun owner, and I support common sense gun laws. But we've already got tons of common sense gun laws, and none of the proposals put forth by Governor Northam and his crew of idiots have anything to do with common sense.

I favor taking your guns away. You don’t need them. This isn’t Somalia, Yemen or the 1800s Wild West. We have too many legends in their own mind. You don’t need them for hunting — grocery stores are plentiful. They serve about as much purpose in 2020 as a butter churn. That said, you can have as many muskets as you like.
