#1 Priority for a Blue VA?

Sorry, but I’m just not seeing the cause for concern. The suburbs are as locked in blue as NJ suburbs are. Might as well get all this—and more than this even—passed. Will some crony capitalist moderates who loved the ol’ Virginia Way be upset? Sure they will. Too bad, so sad.

Not so sure about that. I think NOVA is so blue in part due to a reaction against the crazy right wing direction VA Rs have taken. If Ds start to go off their own deep end on extreme policies don’t be surprised to see a moderate R governor elected to put the breakdown.

Think not? See case in point in MUCH bluer Maryland re: Hogan.

- live in fairfax not Arlington.

My answer: gun control. In fact I will be pissed if they focus on anything else off the bat and squander this opportunity.

Redistricting at VA and Fed level. Enfranchisement. Got to make sure it doesn't tip back.

Minimum wage. $10 immediately, $15 by 2023.

Piss away

The Dems piss blue.

They need to start building more prisons immediately. Like right now. Because what are they going to do with the gun nutters? You can't just leave them be.

+1, they need redraw literally every single district to make absolutely sure it has a democratic majority.

Yes, even in the bluest places—NJ, MD, MA—a GOP gov may win in extreme circumstances. Nothing about the new VA majority’s agenda is remotely extreme. There’s no turning back for nova. It’s bluer than blue for all time coming.

“By reenacting the constitutional amendment, Democrats could seize the high ground and preempt GOP accusations that they harbor a radical agenda. Redistricting reform is that rare commodity: good governance that doubles as smart politics.”

LOL good governance.

Non-partisan redistricting by an independent commission IS good governance.

And It won't "preempt GOP accusations" and wont be "smart politics." But democrats will likely fall for this middling liberal crap.

Virginia is not as "blue" as some people think or hope.

If 2019 taught us anything, it taught us that national politics are influencing state politics more strongly than in the past. That's favoring Dems today, but what happens in the future if a highly unpopular Dem President drags down his or her own party? There are enough Republicans and independent moderates in the Commonwealth to shift the balance of power back.
