Girls u13 DA/ECNL club question for those who have gone through it

Let's see how they look at u16. My bet is it will be 75% different at that point.

This is what needs to happen at u14 in McLean-hopefully next year they can recruit. Clyde needs to take over and overhaul the team with an influx of talent.

BRYC, McLean and/or Loudoun

as PP said above. If your DD isn’t top 3 girls in her team then it’s a small chance

Not Loudoun. Most of the red team has been promoted to the ECNL team in the past. The others may be different.

"...in the past....." funny. Loudoun has only had ECNL for what, two years now? Hardly a track record to draw conclusions from. If the girl is good enough to make the team, they will. I can't imagine any DA/ECNL club would turn away a talent that was worthy of a spot. If the "new girl" is about the same as some of the existing lower team players from the club, I could imagine they'd promote from within versus take external, but who knows.....

It’s a fact. Did it change with the 2007s? Please share your wisdom, oh great one.

PS, it was the same way in making their top teams previously. They are insular. They do have a strange obsession with trying to pry away FCV players, though, which usually doesn’t work out too well for them.

The 2007s did add from outside the club. They evaluated a number of girls and gave offers to at least one (who joined). And you've got the whole FCV-> Loudoun thing backwards.....FCV is (and has always since they had ECNL previously....) always looking to add Loudoun kids.

The fact is that the Loudoun ECNL teams are predominantly just the former red teams, renamed. The point was not to say Loudoun won't accept outsiders, just that the odds are stacked in the favor of the current red team players at the u12 level.

The fact also is that the TD has an obsession with wrestling FCV girls away to Loudoun. If you are at Loudoun and don't know this, I'm shocked; you need to pay much more attention. Unless you already know and are trying to throw those who don't off the scent.

Regarding the "renaming" Red to ECNL.....don't most clubs do that in the switch to ECNL (at least those who have a u-little program)? Mclean Green becoming their ECNL team, FCV Elite becoming their DA team, etc. Obviously there are tryouts for each team for ENCL/DA team but the odds are always "stacked" in favor of those you know versus those you don't, unless someone new comes in and blows you away. That paradigm isn't unique to Loudoun.

McLean 2007 has a very good team. 75% of the players belong there. They don't need an "overhaul"

1/2

My guess, with the saturation of ECNL/DA teams in NOVA (FCV, Arlington, McLean, Loudoun, Metro, VDA, BRYC), that 75% statement probably applies to most of the teams......

Is Metro going to have younger DA teams? I was looking the other day and they don't have one at U13. They have a bunch of little kids playing 2-3 years up with the U14 (2006) age group. Looks like that team is made up of players from 2006 all the way down to 2009.

Depends on DA quality talent they get from the 3 new partner clubs and from outside.

For MoCo, is Bethesda Soccer the only ECNL club for girls?

The prior poster was referring to the U14 team, or 2006 girls. They DO need a major overhaul! Don’t have a dedicated goalie and are in last place in ECNL for 2 years running...

Sure there are some that are a little better but there is not one dominant team that would beat all the other teams every time they play. I think there may be a little back and forth between Arlington and McLean next year based on geography as well as FCV and Loudoun. All of the teams may pick up a player or 2 from non-DA/ECNL teams but there really aren't that many soccer super stars out there not already on one of these teams. People commenting that only the top 3 players will be on the team next year must not have younger players. With all the dilution in this area that type of thing isn't going to happen anymore.

LOL no! A lot of the u12 “stars” will not be “stars” on the big field. I see it at my club now. Girls who were big and fast last year seem slow and average size. While others have grown and have gotten faster. That is not even taking into account the girls who are taking off technically.

Also there are a few(2-4) “star” players and the ROTT(rest of the team). The ROTT will be eligible for replacement at any time. Just because your kid is on a u12 team at a club with DA/ECNL does not mean your kid will make it next year. A lot of the big physical kids playing midfield and striker will find themselves fighting it out to be a fullback. Your kids position starts to matter.

There are still girls in the county who play for MDUnited ECNL, which is actually better overall. Bethesda 05 ECNL is the only serious squad at the club. The rest are blah, which is why the club brought over the Rush coach to show them how to play at an elite level. Before he arrived with his 05 tram, Bethesda was just full of parents and kids chasing a brand with zero substance.

I saw the u12 team is traveling 3-4 hours one way for league games. How is that going over?

I don’t know if my U12DD will make this team next year but this driving distance is very intimidating.
