Why do I hate Katy Perry so much?

But intellectually I think it is really unfair to feel pained by her efforts to be THE female pop star. She is working hard and trying and that shouldn't be off putting. But seeing someone, particularly a woman, trying so hard to be something and not necessarily completely succeeding I think sets off some primitive feeling of repulsion in human social cues. And its compounded by the fact that she has this artificial schtick that just makes the try hard stand out more.

It is the feeling you get when a not quite perfect polished outsider girl is trying out for a cheer leading squad and not doing it quite right. Some swirl of sympathetic embarrassment that just makes you recoil in your core. But that is a cruel and unfair instinct and like I said I try to actually suppress it because she's just a hard working woman who is trying to build a career. And I love some of her songs.

Katy Perry is fake and awful. She punches down, and has made cruel, sly, public references to Britney Spears’s mental breakdown at least twice, and to her ex-husband’s addiction. She sells herself on sexuality, not more, and is vicious. She’s not a try-hard outsider only, though that is true. She is a bad person.

She's a pop artist who seems firmly in control of her career and brand. I think she's pretty impressive.

She managed to get American Idol to swing for strike 3 and pay her $25,000,000 (after the same $$$ to the lovely JLo didn't save the show and after the same $$$ to super diva Mariah Carey almost tanked the show). So, there's that.

I like her music...very poppy fun and silly. But I dislike Kary Perry too. Something about her is a huge turn off. I will literally turn the channel if she is on TV though I enjoy listening to her. I don't understand it either. It's weird. I love all the others in her chort...Gaga, Swift, Sia. I agree with you...she is just gross.

And in recent years her career has been fading, along with her sexuality. She very publicly said she didn't want to be "Katy Perry" anymore so she cut her hair, tried to change her sound, etc. And guess what? No one liked it. Now she's riding on her name but doesn't have any hit music. Add her to the list of women who need to hang it up now that they've passed their prime. She could have worked her persona well into her 40's I think. Now she looks like someone's uncool aunt.

Eh. I disliked her 10 years ago because I was 23, insecure, and jealous that all the guys thought she was hot and liked her tits. I don’t have tits.

Now I’m 33 and think she’d be a lot of fun to hang out with. She seems like the type who’s the life of the party and constantly up to mischief. I like that.

I also like that she’s not the best singer, she knows she isn’t, and so her performances are more of just having a lot of fun with the audience. Sometimes I want to hear a phenomenal singer, sometimes I just want to have fun and be entertained. She’s a good entertainer.
