Why do I hate Katy Perry so much?

1) Her schtick is very artificial. On purpose clearly, she has a very clear aesthetic and it isn't about natural genuine beauty it is about looking kind of doll like and creating replicas of time periods. I think in today's world that is seen as a little off putting.

2) She is a try hard. This one makes me feel bad. But I feel like she is like, the Christina Aquilera/Jessica Simpson to Taylor Swift's Britney Spears. The slightly lesser female celebrity pop star du jour that people take pleasure in cutting down. I don't think that metaphor totally works on a talent level because xtina is a way better singer than spears but in their heyday spears was WAY more famous and mainstream popular.

But intellectually I think it is really unfair to feel pained by her efforts to be THE female pop star. She is working hard and trying and that shouldn't be off putting. But seeing someone, particularly a woman, trying so hard to be something and not necessarily completely succeeding I think sets off some primitive feeling of repulsion in human social cues. And its compounded by the fact that she has this artificial schtick that just makes the try hard stand out more.

It is the feeling you get when a not quite perfect polished outsider girl is trying out for a cheer leading squad and not doing it quite right. Some swirl of sympathetic embarrassment that just makes you recoil in your core. But that is a cruel and unfair instinct and like I said I try to actually suppress it because she's just a hard working woman who is trying to build a career. And I love some of her songs.

Thank you. This is really what I was looking for. "primitive feeling of repulsion" really nails it. I wouldn't mind if a high school girl who couldn't quite do it tried to be a cheerleader. That's a child - they're learning and trying. Katy is an adult. She should know better. Better than to what, I don't know exactly.

That did it for me, plus that creepy kiss on American Idol that the PP referenced.

Yep. That is what killed her for me. I liked her fine before that mess.

Dunno but I hate Taylor Swift 10 times more than you hate Katy Perry.

So the Anne Hathaway thing?

I don't like her but I don't have quite your level of disdain OP!

Please. Entitled? She grew up in a modest, religious family and sang in the choir.
She’s beautiful , talented and cool.

I don't know that it even matters anymore, tbh. She had a great career and she managed to do one stupid thing after another....it's a shame. Hopefully she's happy in her personal life and if she wants to start a family soon she always has the option to do that.

I do not care for her but I would dip my pen in her ink.....

I'm disgusted by her. As in, I wouldn't want to sit next to her. I wouldn't want to let her borrow my pen. I would tune out in a meeting if she were talking.

I do recall being disgusted by her kissing a guy who auditioned on American Idol who said he was waiting to meet his future wife, but other than that, I don't know what she's done to get this reaction from me.

Since you're all total strangers, can you explain my hatred to me? If it helps, I also hate Dick Cheney.

I don't know. That's your character flaw, not hers. It's like you've taken rat poison and are waiting for the rat to die or something. Super weird. Maybe seek therapy for this distorted way of thinking.

I'm not the PP but you made me laugh out loud with this. Are you always this dramatic? LOL.

Now she comes across as entitled, snotty, and privileged.

Is she the one with the spinning brassieres? Whoever that was creeped me out. And I am afraid to google that.

Have you seen the pic Russell Brand posted of her without all the makeup, hair, etc? She's not only plain, she's flat out ugly.

Katy Perry had hit songs early in her career but the last several years have been an embarrassing flop. She's really shown how key it was that she had the right producers and songwriters, because she clearly isn't using them anymore. (Dr. Luke)

My personal opinion, I liked her early on but grew tired of it after Teenage Dream. Ever since I read an interview where she said she's now trying to do "purposeful pop" (all of which has failed) and the drastic attempts at changing her persona, I find her irritating. She said she didn't wanna be "Katy Perry" anymore, but made her career off of it. She also tries WAY too hard to be funny, relevant, and cool......none of which she is.

I don't remember spinning but she did whipped cream cannons shooting out of her bra.

She’s a try hard that no longer makes music that people enjoy listening to. She’s also supposedly quite mean.
