LMK when someone posts a cogent point.

What would your heroes think of you, wasting your time on this site? |
YOU have come back to it, because YOU won't listen, even though facts are presented showing that the schools do many academic things in concert which have nothing to do with their games. Such as, they all release admissions decisions the same day. They also meet every year to discuss admissions and share EA/ED information. And many more things. But much more importantly, is what the phrase "ivy league" MEANS. It has a meaning to most of the world - a collection of some of the most elite colleges in the country. And that won't change, no matter how many times you whine "the ivy league is just a sports conference". |
So, you can let your politics cloud your judgement. This is America, after all, you are given that right. But your point makes no sense. You say the smartest students apply, and thousands and thousands of them... and they get the best career opportunities if they attend.... but they are not the best? Forgive me but that makes no sense. Funny thing is The Ivy League does not need me defending it here. Most students want to attend there if they can get admitted and afford it. There are reasons for that. Those reasons aren't changing. |

Thry are the “best” we have today( which isn’t saying much) Check this out. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fQa-gJ0bEdI Academically, a place like Reed, Harvey Mudd, or St. John’s is far superior to any Ivy |

| Guessing you’re a troll, but I’ll bite. Public Ivy has been a term for decades. Thirty seconds with google would answer your question. UNC is on the list. To be sure, the list is outdated insofar as few people would consider Vermont or Miami of Ohio worthy of the designation. But, you know, UVA, UNC, Cal, UCLA, and William and Mary —that’s legit. |
Sigh... Reed and HM are awesome. No argument. And many colleges are better at certain programs; I doubt anyone would argue that CMU is not stronger in computer science than any Ivy. But to argue that they are not among the very best colleges in the country is ridiculous, and you should stop. |
| Hopefully angry grandpa goes to bed soon. |
“angry grandpa” is correct if one has a more traditional view of what constitutes academic excellence. Charles Murray makes similar arguments |
My son could have gotten into an ivy but did not attend because of some of these reasons...plus the cutthroat nature of these institutions. He's super bright, but more of a collaborator vs. a competitor. |
Nope. |

Common admission dates and scholarship guidelines are things that the various college sports conferences do. To keep things fair in sports recruiting. The phrase has MEANING different from reality. It’s really just a sports league. Here’s the handbook. It all ties back to sports. http://ivyserver.princeton.edu/ivy/downloads/manuals/Ivymanual2011-12%20copy.pdf |
Requires living in Virginia. If you don't, then they are about the same, and for most people, Brown is better. |
Neither Stanford, Chicago, Duke or Northwestern are public schools. Terrific, all of them, but not public. |
