Clearly not. They also don’t understand that those people have lots of other opportunities right here and that’s why they aren’t “screwed” and don’t need to leave, even if it makes them sad to give up jobs they love and feel passionate about. They are not desperate and have options. The administration knows this, and knew they would quit rather than move. It was strategic. PPs don’t even know who lobbyists lobby. Geez. |
Read the thread - they're only screwed if they leave. Also I'd be curious to see who the scientists will side-line to when September comes around. Fun times in D.C. all around. |

Interior is trying to move all of USGS out to Colorado. They are in Reston now... but that's another one. I think this is all political.... the political appointees are looking to get patted on the head for reducing government and the Republicans tell the receiving states -- look! See what we did for you? Jobs!... now vote for GOP!
They are slashing the size of government by moving agencies without any gov-based logic/reason. I wish the Va. delegation would get on board and block this move to CO. |
Colorado would actually be a pretty freaking fantastic upgrade from Reston. I wonder if USGS is hiring. |
Amen! |
USGS has big presence in South Dakota wonder if that might be in works too. |
No. 93% of the agency is already located at various field offices outside DC. This is no different than the other move. They’re hoping the employees (it’s only like 27 people) will quit. And they just slashed 74 positions. The people being targeted are probably standing in the way of something this administration wants to do. Get rid of those people, and they can build those condos, gas pipelines, nuclear plants, etc., that were blocked. |
LOL Maybe it will. But it probably won't. They aren't moving to Denver. They're moving to Grand Junction. A 'city' of 50,000 people. Ever driven all the way down to Charlottesville for a staycation? Now imagine twice the distance and that's Grand Junction. Denver is a 4-hour drive away. So is Salt Lake City. Nice views though!

| Grand Junction is actually beautiful. I have friends who've moved to Colorado and they absolutely love it, but they are very outdoorsy people. |
