Honestly- why do you want to play for MadLax?

By playing for MadLax you are essentially condoning this type of behavior and teaching your kids it's okay to act this way. Is saying your kid plays D1 lacrosse more important than them becoming good people?

As a mom to boys who are raising children in a VERY different climate than it was in 1990 for boys, no way in HELL would I let my boys plan for that franchise. I don't want to reinforce bad behavior that is now considered culturally inappropriate. it would do my kids no favors whatsoever. White parents should have better common sense. White boys are no longer allowed to act whichever way they want and get a free white pass.

Plus my kid has much more going for him than athletic talent. We don't have to hope and pray for a spot on a college lacrosse team for his ticket to higher education. I suppose if your boy is as dumb as rocks, you gotta do what you gotta do.

Please junior, go on back to cruising the internet videos and let the adults talk. Do we really have to explain why there are rules in sports and life?

The constant point-and-shriek "MadLax Bad! MadLax Cheats!" is really infantile and boring.

Parents who are willing to look the other way and swallow their morals to give money and have their son play for Madlax are really pathetic. As long as you're not the one being threatened, right? It's ok if the club breaks rules and cheats, right?

My son does not play for MadLax. But, I know parents whose kids play for MadLax. And I know ex-MadLax parents whose kids who now play for my son's club. These are all perfectly decent, nice, morally upstanding people with great kids. The blanket condemnations of them I see in this thread are unbelievably stupid, as well as infantile and boring. Get a life.

You really need a more comprehensive vocabulary. It's boring.

So you would not allow you child to go to a Catholic school either?

I frankly don't even know what the hell you're talking about. When did the misdeeds of Cabell Maddux and the incidents of MadLax cheating become a race thing?

Fun fact: black and Asian kids play for MadLax.

You really need a more comprehensive (or indeed, any) acquaintance with MadLax parents and players. Your opinions, based as they are on ignorance, are hilariously stupid.

Because you are an older dad who was bullied growing up in school and, now that you're a successful lawyer in Alexandria, you think that having your son play for Madlax will give him the life you never had. You always had to play by the rules because you were so beaten down, so you admire an organization that gives the middle finger to anyone who crosses it, one that wins by any means necessary. But for some reason, even with all your success, you're still resentful and bitter and angry at the world.

Am I close?

It's how dull white boys get into top universities... Lacrosse. Hello! You don't know this?

This all seems silly - if your son plays for MadLax and enjoys the experience, is developing and getting good coaching/support, then keep them there. If not, switch clubs. Folks seem to think that parents have the time to weigh youth sports decisions based on some sort of mortality scale, when it's hard enough just to get them to practice on time.

If you are playing madlax, ask for an age check before every game.

Problem solved.

While at first I felt this post does not deserve a response, I thought that it might be beneficial for some to become more educated on an often misinformed stereotype about the sport of lacrosse. Madlax did not exist as far as I know in 1990 and I think the many local lacrosse moms such as the PP are new to the sport and the history. Those such as the previous poster who seem to want to cast a biased racial net over the sport may not have been aware of the history and current state of lacrosse. This is the only sport that was created by indigenous north Americans and has a very spiritual history. The Creator's game was medicine and an early form of mental therapy. Football, basketball, and especially baseball, all have very well documented examples of racist policies and worked hard to discriminate access to entry. Some of the greatest athletes in each of these sports had to overcome these barriers. I know of now such examples of lacrosse players in the early days. Locally, Howard and Hampton university both have division one lacrosse teams. One of the great lacrosse documentaries chronicles the Morgan State lacrosse team. The sport has worked very hard to grow the game internationally and the teams from Israel, Uganda, Japan, China, and Jamaica are always crows favorites and the FIL tournament. It is now a provisional olympic sport (but 7v7 and I am not crazy about the format) Currently several POC lacrosse stars are featured athletes in the PLL and the face of the league. Jim Brown is considered the face of the history of the sport. The only real act of cultural insensitivity one will find on google is the 2010 FIL world cup where the Iroquois national team was denied the right to use native passports and did not attend. This was during the Clinton state department. I am not naive and do realize that many consider the sport a privileged mostly white sport due to the success in private HS teams but I do not feel this is accurate and there is more to the story. I do not like to follow the masses because they often forget to take the M with them.

Sure. Ignore other people being threatened, other teams who are cheating by having players play down, paying regular fees to keep you from leaving. As long as it's someone else having a miserable experience, it's all good!

Yeah I was actually kind of glad that the refs were so obviously calling for ML at their giant steaming horse pile tourney, b/c the lesson my kid learned was "Work hard because the other team doesn't always play fair so you have to be twice as good" and now he's fired up. He's got enough privilege and the last thing he needs to come away from the sport with is "The rules don't apply to you".

You hate MadLax because your kid sucks so bad at lacrosse that he couldn't even make the DMV team.
