In 20 years of marriage, I've never had a fight with my wife so bad that I was even remotely close to leaving the house. This is foreign to me.

DCUM harpie here. Cheating is always wrong, no matter who does it. Maybe OP's wife is also doing something wrong, but as my mama always said to me, "two wrongs don't make a right". If OP's wife is wrong, then OP's recourse is to try and address the problem with professional help and if that doesn't work to divorce.

Cheating isn't a form of punishment administered to a woman in order to "not let her get away with her sh*t". That's abusive.
