How many strollers do you need?

Anonymous
My initial reaction was to say one, but I think 3 is defensible. We have an Uppababy Cruz for day-to-day, my husband bought a jogging stroller for when the baby is big enough to sit up better, and I imagine we'll get an umbrella stroller down the line. If they serve different purposes I can see how you get multiple.

That said, you really only *need* one (and there's a case to be made for zero).

2. But you will somehow wind up with 3-5 in your garage.

OP here. They can be returned for store credit so we can buy other baby items instead.

OP-when we lived in a 2 bedroom apartment, we just had 1 stroller (a Maclaren) and it worked well. Once we moved to a house when we had a second kid, I bought a jogging stroller, but honestly, unless your wife jogs, all you need is one stroller. (Can't imagine were you're putting all those strollers in a 2BR apt.)

We have three in a 2br apt: 1) Citi Mini GT that folds flat for baby and is primary stroller for newly-3 year old's daycare commute (w baby in carrier). 2) Umbrella stroller for travel/bus w 3 year old. 3) Sit and stand for both kids that baby is just now old enough to use.

We have 2 kids 2.5 years apart and have a City Mini GT with glider board, City Mini double, snap and go that we’ll get rid of soon, and a really old umbrella stroller that we never use.

OP here. Yes. My wife made a registry with Nordstrom. Our family has access. She did not have a baby shower or registry with our first child. I think they're making up for it. She did not want gifts/ baby shower for our first child. We bought a lot of stuff second hand.

I’m still confused as to why you said your wife purchased these, but they were gifts she registered for. And you already have secondhand strollers at home from your first? Why did she register for (or buy?!) a bunch of single strollers? Either way return them all and buy a double stroller.

OP I think the answer in your case is that you have too many damn strollers. Tops you need: 1. Stroller with bassinet and car seat attachment plus glider board. 2. Double umbrella stroller for trips with kids. 3. Single umbrella stroller for one older kid shouldn’t be in a stroller anymore, which is the point you were getting at soon.

From your very confusing post, it sounds like you have about seven or eight options to choose from. Pick the ones that fit and return or sell or donate the others.

Wait.... which one is it? She bought them or they were gifts? You need to be note clear.

To answer your question, we started with 2. The Uppa Baby Vista (and you really should get the carseat that goes with the uppababy system, a lot easier to transfer baby in bucket seat while sleeping, etc) and the we had a travel one that we didn't care if it got ruined.

Now we have a crappy hand me down umbrella that comes in handy

I suspect OP is a FTM who went out and bought $1500 worth of strollers and is now trying to justify it to her DH

OP here. I think my wife is making up for her lost baby shower experience. We were in grad school with our first child and she did not want a baby shower or gifts. Basically our family asked what sort of gifts we want for the new baby. My wife sent links to different strollers. We ended up with 3 new strollers and 1 stroller was from our first child. I think we should return at least 1 stroller. We could exchange it for store credit. She also bought expensive car seats for both children. I'm fine with the car seats. She wants a different experience this time around because we finally have extra money.

OP - I waited 6 years to have a second baby, and contemplated getting a very expensive stroller the second time. Instead, I upgraded from a basic City-Mini to a GT, and by the time by kid was 18 months old, I had bought the Summer Infant 3D-Lite which we now use almost exclusively. It fits better in the car, travels and collapses easily, and is comfortable enough for my now-2-year old. I wish I'd never bought the second City-Mini, and I'm SO glad that I didn't spend almost $1,000 on the UppaBaby. In your shoes, I'd keep the one that makes the most sense for your immediate needs - an infant without a car seat - and expect that you'll probably switch to an umbrella stroller (whether fancy or basic) fairly soon after your kid can sit up.

It all depends on how you'll use the stroller(s). I ran with our kids, so a good jogger was important to us. Did we "need" it, probably not, but it allowed me to get regular exercise and juggle work, kids, etc. The other stroller that got a lot of use was a good umbrella stroller, because a jogger is overkill for travel, the mall, etc.

If you have a walking commute with kids and/or walk a ton through the city, you may want something different.

Bottom line: there is no one stroller to rule them all. Think about how you'll use it/them, and go from there.

OP here. She wants one for home walking, the mall and travel. Surprisingly they don't take up a ton of room. We have one in the house and the other 3 are in the car.

You sound like you want to keep them all so what’s the question?

You need to pick between the Cruz OR bugaboo. Keep the yo-yo. Cruz or bugaboo will be your regular stroller. Yoyo will be for travel.

This is us. We have a Cruz, a jogging stroller, and a Joovy umbrella stroller. I think 3 is the max you can justify.
