We usually rely on our good looks, wealth, and proper education. Good luck to your MCPS grad when they face final exams for the first time. |

. Love Landon too!! |
| All this talk about lacrosse in this thread but zero of the students going to top schools are lacrosse players. |
| 95 percent of kids this year were admitted ED for first choice school. Those are terrific stats. Landon is a wonderful school and if you don’t get that well then you never will. |
No, it does not. It's an all-Magnet school. |
Predictably tacky college t-shirt photo. |

Anybody who lives in the area who can afford the tuition would go a similar route if they were unsure if their kid could get into similar colleges via their public school, W or other. Like AMEX membership, disposable income comes with privileges. It’s not just Landon moms, most parents are momma bears!

The "few" people who care about lacrosse care A LOT about it. I went to the championship in Philly and I was amazed how many Yalies were there. Rich alums want to see their school's team win. |
| I am a public school parent, I really have no dog in this fight. All I can say is that I have been looking at the college matriculation list for the various private schools that have been posted on this form, and Landon really is at the bottom of the pack. It is not performing well compared to the other private schools, at least not on the surface. It’s more on the level of Georgetown prep and Gonzaga than the top schools. |
Yes, but this is it's niche. It has a fairly open door policy for admissions (for full pay students). It's a solid, well-rounded education for those who want to pay $45K and avoid public (for whatever reason) but it's not an elite school with competitive admissions. I know many kids who matriculated at Landon after they were not able to get in to the super competitive schools. That said, (again) I think it's a great, solid education and we'd send our son there. We know many great kids who attend. |
| If that’s their niche it ain’t much of one |
I'm not a Landon parent but you've got to be kidding me with your characterization. Harvard, Princeton, Yale, Cornell, Vanderbilt, UVa, UNC, Tufts, Amherst, Swarthmore, Williams . . . this is an excellent list and particularly for a small school. Next tier of schools also impressive and I am sure some strong students chose to accept merit aid at some of the mid-tier schools. |
| Landon definitely has one thing in common with Prep, any time a thread about either school is posted the haters come out in full force. |
Someone from Landon is going to Swarthmore?! That is going to be... a culture shock. |
