When I was looking for a new home last year, I was searching in a particular school zone. This was a popular school, so there were homes coming on the market every week and homes selling every week. The areas I was looking in could have anywhere from about 7-30 homes in any given week. With that much volatility, I was checking multiple times a day. There were homes that were clearly not right for me even though it fit several of my search criteria. After a few weeks of searching, I figured out about teh X-out. Once I determined that the house was not right for me, I would X it out. This saved me a lot of time as those homes that were sitting for a little longer, but were not right for me did not show up in my search and I was able to look for the homes that were right for me without having to sift/search through a listing of listings that I had already seen and ruled out. After I started X'ing out, my list was much shorter and I had a better chance of catching new listings It's not about you, OP. It's about what I want a search engine to do and how to make my house search easier. |
OP, what you have here is arguably a failing on the part of Redfin, not the people doing the filtering. Potential buyers X out houses for the purposes of streamlining their searches, and the ability to do that is very useful. No one is being rude. Take it up with Redfin, not the users who just want the feature for their own personal filtering purposes. |
I think the X-outs are fine and serve a useful purpose. I think it’s a mistake for them to display the number of them to anyone though. |
When I was buying the X-outs had no impact whatsoever on my view as to whether or not I was interested in the house. |
It seems like horrible feature that is set to hurt lots of sellers. I think the Redfin should remove it. |
From the missing words to the unhinged rant of an at-once confused and angry person, this OP is gold. The tone of the post-bewilderment mixed with anger-reminds me of when my toddler is upset by something utterly trivial and inevitable, like gravity causing blocks to fall down. |
OP you forgot to identify yourself ![]() |
Can I X-Out you? |
The odd assumption here is that people rely on Redfin to find a house and then subsequently cannot decide for themselves so they rely on X outs. Redfin is just one of the myriad of methods to find a house. But if this X out thing will turn people off a house I may buy, then I will X out on all the PCs I can access. |
Be my guest! ![]() |
OP sounds weird. |
+ 1. OP is in her feelings about something minor that happened a year ago. |

I don’t take others opinions on this stuff into account at all. It is like yelp and all of the people that claim Cheesecake Factory is the greatest restaurant ever. |
OP - If a couple had half a brain, they should X-out the homes they want and favorite the homes they dont want.
Why are you telling folks to go buy the ones you want to buy? Makes no sense. |
