Super. Stay home, then. Easy fix for you. We'll raise a glass in your honor. |
People who fail to believe children are humans shouldn't be welcome anywhere. |
Always interesting to read the fierce defense of drinking on DCUM. The excuses people make to have another drink is quite telling.
There's no wonder we have a worsening drinking problem in our country. |
DP, but of course the wineries are going to make their establishments kid-friendly. Families stay longer; drink more = $$. Isn't very hard to figure this stuff out. |
NP - I am from Europe, but the winery would not be my destination of choice with kids either, and I think it's an odd parenting decision. Drinking and driving, or parenting while under the influence is just not my thing. Now opening a bottle in my backyard with friends and neighbors while the kids are running around, count me in. Taking a picnic to the park and enjoying it with an adult beverage, sure. But when I am with my kids, I tend to prefer being sober. This is not a "European" thing. |
It’s not pearl clutching sweetie, it’s parenting. Yes let’s rationalize that’s its “European” or wineries have “kids activities”. It’s parenting. Don’t take your kids to the wineries just because YOU want to go to the wineries. |
Mother of the year here. Have another drink dear. The kids aren’t watching you. |
Np. If we left it up to my kids we’d only go to playgrounds. No restaurants, grocery shopping or car rides. |
I’m always surprised by how anti alcohol dcum is. I wonder if it’s due to religious beliefs? Dcum seems to have a lot of Muslims (which makes sense due to our dc population. And this isn’t an anti Muslim comment). |
+1 Thank you. |

Medieval times, moms ticket free. Maybe? ![]() |
+2. There are some biergartens that are modeling this now too in the region. Decades ago, in Munich and wider Bavaria, I remember lots of biergartens having kids' areas, and that was before I had kids. Sometimes we are so puritanical, FFS. |
Puritanical is correct. We go to kid and dog friendly wineries and let the kids run free wile the dog naps on his leash. We eat a nice picnic or buy food.
We might have a glass or two, but we come home with a case of wine we serve at parties. We get some fresh air, the kids play cornhole, it kills a couple of hours and we have wine for our next event. It's usually a pretty nice day. |
This sounds fabulous. I'll raise my cup of tea to you and yours, PP. (This is not an anti-alcohol statement; please don't flame winery fans.) |
