No. Conservatives support destroying the government to cut taxes on the rich, and will push any lie or action that will get votes for their pro-billionaire policy. That’s it. That’s all they stand for. Everything else they say is a lie. |
If you live downtown, why would you need to pay the congestion tax? Do you have a car? Where are you driving to? |
Seriously. Leave downtown for people who don't feel the need to drive everywhere. |
This. Grosso is like a parody of a naive hipster |
ha! wait until the major non-government employers balk (i.e., move to Tysons, Arlington, etc.) and/or let employees telework or use alternate office instead of commuting over the VA bridges or from MD.. all of that = HUGE loss in revenue (food spending, parking garages - all taxed). |
| We CANNOT WAIT to end our lease here and move away. NOVA here we come! |
Would a ten dollar a day congestion tax (say) which will not be paid by suburbanites who commute on metro, on VRE/MARC, etc really have such a dramatic impact on labor availability as to motivate many employers to move out? I doubt it. Has London lost a lot of jobs as a result of its congestion charge? As for retaliatory taxes, as a Car Lite Virginian, I would welcome that. If Arlington could apply it to Maryland drivers, I would be delighted. |

From the article:
Cheh proposed raising the current effective 6% soda tax to 8%, and proposed adding sweetened coffee and tea drinks to those covered by the tax. She wanted the funding to go largely to improve school and summer meals programs for children in need. So if you buy a regular latte at starbucks it is 6% tax but a vanilla latte would be 8% tax? |
| How about putting a tax on go-go music? |
You're into something there. |
Ummm you don't sound too bright - you realize that both MD & VA have tolls in numerous locations which are effectively the exact same thing and often in contexts where there is no alternative? The bonds on the Bay Bridge were paid off 20 years ago and there is really no effective alternative to getting to the Eastern Shore and MD wants people to go to the beaches to spend money but none of that has caused them to eliminate the toll. |
Perfect! Bring it on. Less traffic! |
Why stop at the congestion tax, they should put booths on the sidewalks to pay toll for use, every ten feet.
|
Yeah, because walking is clearly an activity we should discourage. So destructive! Just as unsafe for people and the environment as driving!

I live in the burbs, so take this for what it’s worth. I can pay a congestion tax and I would. BUt would that type of tax hurt lower income people? I hate the Lexus lanes everywhere now, allowing wealthy people fast access to their jobs and truly hurting working class people.
I’m all for a tax on sweetened tea and coffee. |
