In its insatiable search for more and more taxes, it will just create more opportunity for the mayor to provide favored consulting contracts to her cronies and for a couple of far left members on the DC Council to further boost social benefit levels significantly above the levels provided by neighboring jurisdictions. And then they wonder why social services needs keep rising in the District.

We have a balanced budget and the country’s highest municipal credit rating, dipsh#t.

Amen and they stop randomly and zoom through our neighborhood streets. Can’t believe I miss taxi drivers who seemed more adept.

Only thanks to the controls put in place by the Federal control board. If it hadn’t been for that, DC still would be in deep-doo Barryville. Recently the DC auditor, however, cautioned that spending proposed by the mayor and some of the council would significantly weaken DC’s financial position and undermine its present credit rating.

Sign a petition for high speed humps on your street!

This. And I live in the burbs. You probably don’t pay for your online news, either.

No a toll to drive into central DC. You do realize there are other ways to get into downtown DC, right? Do you even live around here?

But... but freedom!

I’m generally in favor of congestion taxes, but it does make sense here. Va or Md could just set up their own tolls targeting DC drivers to retaliate.

And maybe all together that would decrease the number of people driving and increase the number of people taking public transit, biking, etc. Sounds like a win!

They are, and you are slowing them down too. A congestion tax would deter a few drivers, making it faster for everyone else. Ideally, the money raised would be dedicated toward public transportation, as is planned in NYC, making it a win-win scenario.

Stupid idea. I certainly would visit DC less.

I am a proud DC citizen.

Bring on a congestion tax! Reduce traffic.

If we can keep out the same hateful conservatives who are putting our kids at risk by voting for gun fetishism - all the better.

A lot more VA and MD drivers commute in than vice versa. Check out the traffic going OUT of DC in the morning.

DC has all the leverage here.

Yes. DC has been doing pretty well in recent years due to multiple factors. Why DC thinks it needs to increase its already high taxes is bizarre? Reprioritize spending!!

Did you even read the post you were responding to before you started spouting conservative talking points?

Also, the congestion tax isn't (mostly) about raising revenue, it's about improving the traffic problems in the downtown that have been exacerbated by Uber and Lyft. (Cities used to be able to exercise control over traffic by setting the amount of parking and the number of taxis. Uber and Lyft changed that calculus and stripped the cities of much of that control.)

You'd think conservatives would be for congestion pricing. It's just basically supply-and-demand at work. and don't conservatives support that?
