What job has someone familiar with behind the scenes at many schools? Just curious. Sounds interesting.

And I was thinking of Bruce, the guy who delivers and picks up the intra-office mail. He travels from school to school. Bruce, is that you posting on DCUM?

I work in a central office instructional support role and agree, it’s very interesting and I love my job.

All of the schools mentioned are good schools - like many DCUM discussions go, it’s easy to over analyze when on the whole there is a high bar set. From my
lens, the culture at Westgate is one that is driven by test scores and ‘teaching to the test’ whereas Lemon Road places more energy on cultivating students’ citizenship and deep thinking skills. The teachers I’ve interacted with from Lemon Road seem to have more ownership over their approach to teaching and learning and craft opportunities that are more student-centered rather than curricula-centered, which results from the values of the leadership. I prefer this approach to education and would send my child to Lemon Road for this reason if given the choice.

This. Please name the schools. I want to know which AAP programs are strong in your view and which ones are weak.

This is totally inaccurate. Westgate is anything but a school that teaches to the test. Just look at the annual faculty engagement surveys that an employee should have access to and you'll see how much more engaged, supported, and satisfied Westgate teachers are compared to Lemon Road. Please don't spout having special knowledge without actually presenting any facts.

Giving this a bump. We are at westgate, with a possible move to lres. Are there any westgate aap families that can share their experience? Thanks!

Agree.

And to add another factor, Westgate is better at honoring its DIE commitments, and is overall a more wholistic environment for your child. Through this lens, Westgate ought to edge-out over Lemming Road.

Sure, your one day of interaction gave you that perspective, but your view is now outdated. Teachers come and go like the wind and there can be no expectation that a group of teachers one year will be like the next. If those teachers you spoke to moved to another school would you send them there instead of Lemon Road? Seriously, everyone focuses so much on giving the school building itself glowing reviews as if it's actually inherent that the school will always be good, and not the actual teachers who do the real teaching.

I don’t have any experience with the school you mentioned, but as for my experience sending my kids to the center school is very positif. My kids is high achievers tough, in my case … It is all about cohort and the bonus of very experience teacher.

Local center will give your kid an advantage for TJ admissions as long as FCPS is allowed to continue using their new process
