Cancun/Playa del Carmen suggestions

Coba is a short drive away and very awesome. You can climb to the top of the pyramid!

OP here. I figured all inclusive because that seems easier/less stressful since everything is included and because they have kids clubs. We actually are not big eaters or drinkers so is this not a good option? I think we would spend most of the time in the resort but maybe take 1 or 2 day trips. Again never done an all inclusive, maybe I need to research more.

We did our first all-inclusive this year. We also don't eat/drink a ton but we still found it very appealing not to cook a single meal. And the kids club was great -- just make sure the resort attracts kids the same age as yours, since at least our kids wouldn't go to a club if they were the only ones there.

We stayed at the Paradisus Esmerelda two summers ago in Playa.
It was wonderful. Would recommend the family concierge uplift. They have some fun surprises for the kids and they help with reservations and such.

I've always been a fan of the Occidental XCaret, the hotel itself is nothing special (I do enjoy the food but its not out of this world), but you can get a package with walkin in access to the XCaret nature park next door, with direct hotel to park walking path. I loved it when I went in high school and as an adult and I plan to take DD there when she's older. It's a great park and the unlimited access is convenient.

Is the vibe and beach that different between Cancun and Riviera Maya?

Read the Yelps on the all included resorts before booking. They were very different from Travel Advisor. Also check to see is there is still a State Department warning about travel there.

Just FYI, over on the politics board there are posters claiming the entire country of Mexico is unsafe for refugees/asylum seekers and that’s why they MUST come to the US. So be careful out there!

Really? Why bring this BS over here? It’s like comparing apples and oranges.

Oyster does a good job breaking down reviews. I don’t trust yelp that much either.

I do trust yelp more than Trip Advisor. TA always has such glowing reviews for every resort, it seems. Their forum is great, though. I also like Oyster.

We stayed at the grand fiesta Americana coral beach and had a fabulous time. Wonderful staff, beautiful pools and beach. It was perfect.
