Are the rates posted on the nanny forums accurate?

Well, anyone can be posting anything. It's an anonymous forum, and people have their agenda. Care.com is a good source to get a sense of what market rates are like, and as others have suggested, just ask around. 30$ an hour is not happening in this area.

Anyone can be posting anything here as well. You are absolutely right that ppl have an agenda, and it seems the agenda here is to get the cheapest care possible while claiming your $15/hr nanny is amazing Why would an experienced and smart nanny work for a low wage?

Care.com is not a good source. It list “market rates” as $16/hr. It also charges nannies on the site. Offer $16 and see what kind of candidates line up. The families listed on there want to pay very low. While $30/hr isn’t happening for you, which is fine, others can afford that. If someone claims they make $30/hr who are you to say they don’t. I currently make close to $30/hr plus overtime in a nanny share with vacation days, sick days, and federal holidays off. Oh yeah, I work in NW. I am strictly through word of mouth now and haven’t had an issue finding an employer. However, I have had issues with families trying to lowball me when it was clear they should be looking into daycare or other arrangements.

Nannies are for the wealthy, not for the mid wealthy looking for a deal on childcare.

So you have no data, but are attacking a widely used data source, because you make a certain wage and therefore other people are all making that same wage. Um, ok. Good thing you're a nanny and not in a field involving analytics.

Hey care.com has a certain clientele. You seem to fit right into it. If you think the “market rate” according to care.com in an area as expensive as the DMV is $16/hr then do you. Also, it list $16/hr for pretty much most areas. Common sense says differently but I’m sure you and care.com know best. I’ll take my wage and continue to deal with ppl who can actually afford a nanny.

Hey, the internet is anonymous. You have no idea is posting. Just like you're probably not a nanny, since nannies typically don't spend all their time posting on the Internet during the busy afternoon hours.

You assume every nanny is at work. You forget vacation, breaks, schedules, etc. So you’re right, you probably are just a troll.

The nanny salaries posts are kind of like the money and finance forum. Everyone makes a huge salary of 30$/hr plus 8 weeks of paid vacation, health care and a car. Just like $300K/year is poor in the money and finance forum. Use the information with care.

$25-30/hr isn’t a huge salary.

Never heard of a nanny having 8 weeks of vacation unless the family is traveling and aren’t taking the nanny with them.

I would say a lot of nannies, not all, are offered health care but it’s usually just a stipend.

If your nanny is driving around your kids a car is usually provided. Why would a nanny want to destroy their car for your kids?

Nanny here. I do earn $28 an hour with full healthcare and a great car (Lexus 350). Two weeks vacation - I have never met any nanny who get eight weeks, btw. I am anAmerican, a college graduate, and have teaching experience.

But try it, OP. Try to get a nanny for under $30 and see what happens.

Ha! I live in a community full of wealthy people with nannies, and not one is paying their nanny over 22$/hr. Look at care.com and other online forum with real data on market pricing, because this forum is full of aspirational nannies.

Care.com is trash. Anyone can post and they don’t vet. It’s full of scammers. If that’s your choice then I can only imagine your criteria for a nanny. And sure you live in a wealthy community

Don’t confuse a nanny and an au pair.

But so is DCUM. It's anonymous and unverifiable. Anyone can post, they don't vet either.

Oh I didn’t know DCUM puts out commercials saying they offer excellent nannies, sitters and caregivers.

Looks like the same nanny posters have found this one.

+1. Just read through the posts and you’ll see how biased and low the traffic is on the site. Parent posters are ridiculed constantly.

I would not consider you a typical nanny due to your teaching experience nor do you receive a typical compensation package. You also didn’t post where you work or your job duties. Is the car yours or the nanny car?

No, you clearly do not live in a community full of wealthy people. Wealthy people use agencies and no nanny from an agency - even without college - is less than $25 an hour.

NP here and this I know for sure.

Not true.

Bc the majority of them should be looking into daycare instead of trying to find a cheap nanny.

Then you don’t know much about qualified nannies and why they can earn a good package. For nannies that are actually qualified, professional, and excellent this is most definitely a typical package.

Yet somehow these "poors" manage to employ nannies at the prevailing market rate. I looked at the nanny forums when I was first hiring my nanny years ago, and found it completely out of touch with reality. Now Jeff has allowed nanny posts back on the main DCUM site, and the vocal outliers have found their way over here.
