Not trying to put anyone down. She sounds like a great student. But it's a little obnoxious to apply to 45 schools. Schools have a yield that is based on average behavior, including average number of applications. She is exceeding that by probably 3-4 fold and each school she applied to accepted one less kid because they accepted her. Bummer for those kids (beyond the standard number who get supplanted by one accepted applicant). |
Just one more way modern applying makes it harder for schools and kids to work out what to do. Is Harvard really more selective, or is it just the randomness that results from all the over-applying? |
Sounds really inefficient and weird. It would be much more mature and thoughtful to narrow the field in advance, and save all players time and effort. |
You all are sad and jealous. Are you mad because your bribery plans have been exposed and you don’t how you’re going to get your subpar mediocre kids into college? Better start looking at Community. |
Who are you talking to exactly? I don't think whatshername Loughlin is on this board. |
A hit dog will holler... |
Good for her! I hope she chooses wisely (i.e., the best fit, not the one that gives her the most money). I graduated from a more selective HBCU for undergrad and it was a great experience. |
Oh boo hoo hoo! She hedged her bets! Good for her. The schools pay people to look at the applications, so its not a big deal if a miniscule amount of their time got wasted. Schools looks at thousands of applicants and choose just a fraction of them, so why should this student not hedge her bets? Besides, a high achieving URM student is something every school wants and so if she is a hot commodity then why should she not rise her market value? Do you blame Harvard for wasting the money and time of thousands of students for a few seats? No? Then how is she different if she did the same thing back to the colleges? - Asian American who is happy to see this kid succeed and get into so many colleges. |
So she applied to really easy schools? Nothing to brag about!
Plus she applied for free! |
Harvard is an a$$hole college for 55% of students who are a$$holes. Even the guy who was fraudulently writing SATs for wealthy kids, was an Harvard graduate. I am glad that a handful of URM students get into elite schools with not shabby credentials. At least they are better than people like Jared Kushners of the world. I look at this way - even if some elite colleges take some URMs because they are very bright, they take exponentially more of dumb (mainly White) wealthy kids who pay their way in the college. So I am very happy when URM students are taken into elite colleges - at least they are brainy and hardworking. |
I am very impressed with stories like this and I hope more URMs are taken into more schools. At least they are not dumb kids like those whose parents give donations. |
+1. Surprise surprise the middle class is starting to vote GOP, while some poors and limo rich call them "racist" for doing so. Sorry, it's just survival and good parenting. |
Brainy? Those URMs are significantly less brainy than the average accepted student at those colleges. Unfortunately, that’s the price of affirmative action. |
I think she has more options than are necessary at this point. As far as keeping the money, if she's going to go to grad school plus undergrad, plus living expenses, I'm ok with it. If she's just keeping it like some lottery winnings then I have a problem with it. Scholarships are just that, for scholarly pursuits, not for you to use that money for shopping or things not related to school. That money could help other kids pay for tuition. Yes she earned that money. FOR SCHOOL. |
One thing has nothing to do with the others. And they both are gross, to me. |
