Alex Trebek stage 4 pancreatic cancer

This reminds me so much of Peter Jennings announcing his lung cancer (maybe because I also loved him and watched him every night).

I was just thinking that. We watched World News Tonight every night during dinner for years and it felt like losing an extended family member. Alex Trebek is the same thing, a regular fixture in the home. My parents didn't allow TV during the week growing up but every now and then I was able to persuade them to let me watch Jeopardy if my homework was done. Imagining it without Alex Trebek is unthinkable.

I wish him and his family peace and an easy, painless time.

My dad watched him every night, shouting out all the correct answers to my siblings and my amazement. Alex’s voice is so soothing and that theme song is forever ingrained in my brain. I am so sad for him and his family.

Seriously gracious and so sad to hear.

I watched his announcement and I am praying that he is going to beat this like he says he's going to. He looks so good and healthy. I just can't believe that he could be so sick.

He plans to keep on working. He's amazing.

That struck me, too. He looks and sounds amazing. Please let him beat this.

That is the absolutely crazy thing about cancer. When my dad was diagnosed Stage IV he looked fantastic. It was only routine bloodwork that showed something was amiss. My Uncle was the same.

That’s not how stage IV works. There is no cure. He cannot “beat it”.

Very sad. I've watched him since I was a kid in Canada and he hosted a show called "The Mad Dash."

Nm, wrong show! Must have been Pitfall...

I’m so sad. Grew up watching the show and used to regularly play against my husband when we first met. Almost lost it in front of my 7yo when I read this. He and his family will be in my thoughts.

He is a class act.

He is indeed and I pray that he is one who beats this.

Very sad news. I am praying for his full recovery and strength for his family.

Well he has had 2 heart attacks already so we’re lucky he’s still around even now!
At least he didn’t just stroke out and die a week later in hospit....uh, nevermind

This is a horrible form of cancer. I hate it. I lost my grandpa and a 38 year old classmate to pancreatic.

I wish Alex all of the breakthroughs is the world.

I’m so sorry. I’m an oncology chemo infusion nurse. Pancreatic and glioblastoma will put our hearts in our guts every time

Same though six weeks for my family member.

Same - my mom lived 7 weeks. It’s a monster.

I agree that it is so sad. It takes my breath away.

But I bet he would want Jeopardy to continue without him.

I’m old enough to remember the original host, Art Fleming. Mom and I would watch “Jeopardy” after morning kindergarten over grilled cheese sandwiches and tomato soup. Our family even attended a taping of Jeopardy with Art Fleming when we were in New York when I was 9. Flemming started it, but Trebek solidified the show as an institution.

Let's be honest, he is 78. He is also not being very realistic about this. Also, why not accept the diagnosis? Why fight so hard with that diagnosis and his age?

He lived a long good life.
