op here. To respond to the people who said I’m being too dramatic—have you ever been in a car accident where the damage was fairly minor but you were upset anyway because it’s scary when it happens ? That’s how it was.

People in car accidents have the potential of DYING. Driving is the most dangerous thing we do every day. Are you claiming you almost died on the spin bike?

I think you’re either a troll or you need to seek out a psychiatrist.

JFC, you're seriously comparing falling off a stationary bike with a car accident? You're clearly too clumsy for actual bikiing.

From a PR standpoint, it would be smart of the gym to apologize and offer a goodwill comped month or free something.

I think you will find that the bolt for the pedal is not something that is replaced in a maintenance cycle. It was most likely a manufacturing defect. So op could take it up with the manufacturer of the bolt. Good luck.

Read your contract.

1) you are super dramatic - rattled by a fall? Annoying.

2) just ask the gym to comp you a couple months

3) what exactly do you want from them? $10k for a bruise? Entitled.

I'm sure it was scary - you got rattled. But hon, that happens sometimes. That's just life.

She would have to prove that the equipment was not maintained to manufacturer specifications. How often should they be inspected? Was it longer than that since the last maintenance check? She would have to prove that the snapped bolt was due to lack of oversight and not a manufacturer defect. Does OP really think the gym is going to check every single screw and bolt on every single piece of equipment?

OP's injury could have been worse. if I were the manager, i would be apologizing profusely and comp her something. this could have been prevented if the equipment was checked periodically.

Servicing doesn't include examining a stationary bike's bolts that attache the pedals. When was the last time you checked that on your bike? Your kid's bike? Exactly.

You want compensation for being terrified of falling off a stationary bike and getting a bruise?

Wow. You must have a good life. Seek therapy.

I get scared sometimes when the elevator door opens on my floor and someone's standing on the other side waiting to go in - do I deserve to get compensated?

Honestly people are the worst. If you had medical bills, I can sort of see suing them for those (or your insurance company suing). But you're mad that the spinning wasn't done right, so you want...free spinning?

It was TRAUMATIC! You could say like having a near death experience. Her pedal malfunctioned. Her life flashed before her eyes. There's a bruise. Have compassion!!

Watch the move “Am I Pretty” with Amy Schumer? She falls o. Her head during spin class and her hair gets caught in the fly wheel and her life improves 10 fold.

Metal fatigue is a real thing which is why parts like bolts and screws are changed out on airplanes. The situation could have turned out much worse if I had been in poorer shape. Honestly I want someone to say they are sorry in an official way and to tune up the bikes and maybe comp my membership for a few months. This should not have happened and it was upsetting. And I do feel it's their responsibility to keep equipment in safe working order.

Tell management this. It's not too much to ask, especially for a long time member.
