This is the only AMA thread I've ever been remotely interested in reading and I hope its true.
However in one reply OP says both parents retrained and got new jobs in new fields in another reply she says mother finished her degree after going into WP and she was pissed because she'd finished nearly 70% of it prior to WP So which was it? And aren't those answers somewhat contradictory? |
Why and how were your mom and grandma balling? |
| Did your family settle into a ‘normal’ life or were you always scared? Isn’t Nebraska the first place people think of for WP? |
Op here nope it's true. My mom before WP was 70 percent done with a degree and field she wanted to enter. WP made her start degree all over and pick a vastly different field. No credits could transfer so she was upset bc it was almost double college. |
Op here. I never felt fear but I'm sure that's age related. |
|
I’m fascinated.
Did your family have any kind of choice in what state you moved to? |
|
This is truly fascinating! Please write a book OP!
Did you ever get back in touch with your grandma? |
| Did you know other people in WP? |
| No choice in location. I remember we got a packet and had to bring the packet to an office with people who went through it with us step by step. We went to support retreats (kids only) during our time and met other WP kids there. One was my penal. |

Are you able to tell us what your dad did (crime)? Are you able to tell us what state you used to live in, before WP? Didn't people from your Nebraska town think it was odd, when your family showed up?
Also, see 17:32 - did you get back in contact with any old friends? Did you or siblings use it on college apps? Did you travel at all during that time? What about family? Were you out of contact with them too? Did you ever talk to your grandmother again? Agree with PP, this is the best AMA, if it is true. |
| Are you still in contact with the other WP families? |
|
Did your mother resent your dad for putting you all in this position? Did you or your siblings resent him?
Did your mother know he was part of something illegal all along? Did you understand as a child what his crimes were? If not, when did you find out? |
| Are you in a job that requires security clearance? Would having been in WP affect your ability to get clearance? |
|
Op here. My mother definately went through a resentment phase. I don't know if my brothers did, I never really did
I thought it was kinda cool. I won't commit on crimes. I believe my mother had limited knowledge and she never had any charges She absolutely could have left my dad and he could have served and we could have stayed home. I'm sure she seriously weighed that option. I won't commit on my home state. I don't think it was super strange to our new community. We had a script and I suppose it was believable. My old life and WP life never merged. When we left WP we never went back or kept in touch. I have some yearbooks and stuff though. My mom had a very close friend who she told too much to and they kept contact. It ended up being non harmful but my dad always got nervous. |
