The kids (and their teachers and families) truly are wonders - we are so, so fortunate to have them!

TJ parent, and the kids are damn impressive. I hate the insults because they are nice kids who work hard. But, so are the kids (and their teachers and parents) in the neighborhood who go to the base schools— including one of my kids. People whine about “kids today”. . . And shake their heads. But the kids I know, TJ and base school, are so much more involved and engaged and hard working than when I was growing up. And I went to a DCUM approved college. The academic bar is so much higher. What they do outside of school— research, the drama productions we go to, the level of athletics, the level of the music in band and strings, the community service, internships, etc., etc. There are a lot impressive kids, and parents and teachers in every school I have sent kids to. It makes me hopeful that they can solve some of the big problems my generation and my parents generation have created.

I think you might have less negative feedback if parents like OP didn't feel the necessity to post things like other schools have "less scholars."

This is just not true.

It’s true and unfortunate you are so sensitive. A TJ athlete will be excelling on multiple fronts. That often is not the case at a Marshall.

I don't have a kid at Marshall and I'm not sensitive. The pp said she hated the gratuitous attacks on TJ kids and families, and I pointed out what was a contributing factor to those things on this thread. I teach my kids that even if something is true, you don't need to say it if it will come off as an insult to others. OP could have just congratulated the TJ girls without bringing in the side show. I'm not originally from this area so know that not going to TJ won't likely adversely impact a kid going to Marshall. In fact, many Marshall student will end up at UVA like a big segment of TJ kids. Carry on with pointing out how academically superior TJ kids are and that others aren't, all on a thread about basketball. SMH.

Kind of a pointless argument. No parent from TJ would have posted a basketball thread, let alone the scholar remark. You are almost certainly dealing with teenager who still has some work to do on posting etiquette. The remark was uncalled for. Take it with a grain of salt.

To the teen who started this thread, I’m proud of your great season and understand your excitement. But please don’t play into the worst stereotypes about TJ when posting. Marshall has what is probably the top IB program is FCPS there. There would have been lots on “scholars” on their team too.

Now, back to your corners.

And good luck to the TJ girls in the next round.

Just because fewer Marshall students are scholars doesn’t mean they are stupid.

UPDATE:

TJ girls basketball ends with a second round regional loss to Freedom High 46 -39. Congrats on a great season!

Marshall girls continue on with a second round regional victory over Osbourn Park 51- 36.

TJ girls lost their district backetball finals to an excellent Edison team.

Marshall and TJ girls both won their first round games in their regional tournaments.

Good luck to both teams.

Just in case you've forgotten, TJ is a very selective STEM magnet school. All of their students are strong academically. Their students win more academic awards than any base school!

New poster yo this thread. It’s your last paragraph that’s offputting. You know that everyone on this board is aware of what tj is. Why put that in except to sound condescending? I don’t have high schoolers but you sound defensive, condescending and obnoxious.

Not going to speak for Marshall but the Catcher on Madison's State Championship Softball team from last year (and National Champion according to one poll) is now at MIT. And she did not have to go through the TJ stress (but she had to play for the biggest A-hole coach, the man who refused to shake our hand because we scored a run on him in 10u).

Close but I think you are referring to EK who was recruited to play softball at Stanford.
