Flat stomach over 50?

Anonymous
I see women 50 and older with flat stomachs at my barre classes. They all work hard to stay in shape. I saw one 50 year old take two barre classes in one day -one regular and another one with cardio involved.

It is possible because such women exist, but they make staying in shape a real priority in their lives. Unless you can exercise for 2 hours every day and watch what you eat all the time, you will not see a flat stomach.

I also don’t know if these women have ever had any weight problems in their lives. It is easier to maintain slim figure than to go from overweight to slim after 50. Extra weight is a metabolic issue and is very hard to deal with.

My mom has a flat tummy, but she is skinny fat. It’s definitely genetic. I don’t think she’s ever worked out. But she’s very aware of any change to her body and is very conscious of what she eats every day. Almost in a weird way.
I’m 43 and inherited my dad’s body type. So I gotta really work to get even close to flat now.

My aunt looks amazing at 70. Yoga and daily cardio which seems to be fast walking. No junk in house. Eats few carbs. She was a teacher - v. Organized and disciplined, a believer in routine.

Halle Berry is diabetic and very concise of her diet. I read once that she uses her own body weight for work outs to not bulk up.
JLO dances her butt off for her shows. She is always posting on Insta her diet and exercise. She also has AROD to work out with and I would be motivated and look amazing if he was in my bed!

As a man it puzzles me whether that 50+ woman is doing professional modeling or acting. Other than that it makes no sense why someone would take two barre classes in a single day.

I am not that woman, but I can give you my answer: if you have a husband who is your age (or younger), who is extremely fit. It is a good stimulation to stay in shape to maintain great sex life at that age (I am 42 only, but I will be there soon).

I used to. I wasn't a model or an actress either, just someone who liked staying in shape and enjoyed movement. I grew up doing hours and hours of dance classes per day so two 1 hour-long classes was not a difficult task.

I didn't have a job or kids so going to fitness classes gave structure to my day. It was a social outing. Add those things to the physical and mental health benefits, and it was win win for me.

genetics, age, gravity and menopause all affect how flat your stomach will be after age 50 - assuming you already have a pretty clean diet and are fit....i.e., breaking a sweat and lifting weights at least 3 times a week.

because you're a man! Try being a menopausal woman, who has most likely given birth to a couple kids. you cannot be serious.

It's a struggle as you grow older because it becomes much harder to maintain (let alone build) muscle, and muscle tone is what gives us the most desirable appearance (i.e. not "skinny fat".) But as others have said, you usually have to eat very strictly to have a flat stomach and for most us, the benefit isn't worth the costs.
