The article is ridiculous.
I lived in Eastern Europe for many years. I do think the reason for this is the different way sex and gender roles are treated in this culture, and this hasn't changed much since the Soviet era. However, anything I might write to explain this assertion will be incredibly un-PC, so I'll refrain and smile gently to myself. |
1917 - the first no-fault divorce law, the right to vote for women... and the right to do pretty much anything and work anywhere. This is at the time when women in US still couldn’t dine in a nice restaraunt alone. |
I, for one, would love to read your explanation, and I don't care in the slightest whether it's PC. |
So true. I slept with the college dean to get to the top college in the country. Free education comes with the price. As well as a free medicine. |
That sounds nothing at all like my experience in India. |
Yes, on paper, it all looked great. Women had a right to divorce but divorce was stigmatized enormously. It was impossible to buy an apartment for a single person, so even when couples did divorced they often continued to live in one tiny apartment (like my parents did for years -and they were pretty well off by Soviet standards). Here comes the 'best' part, hold on to it - If colleagues at work learnt that you have an affair (even emotional) you would be grilled for it in front of all of your coworkers. The whole culture was extremely prudish so I cannot imagine how women could have better sex than in the West. It is the innate hypocricy of Soviet ideology that makes it so difficult to explain the truth to outsiders. People in totalitarian regimes have no rights, be they women or men. And anyone who will tell you things were not so bad in the USSR is either a clueless outsider or (most probably) does not value freedom and definitely supports Putin. |
| Hmmmm. I toured Germany with a boyfriend in 1995 pretty soon after reunification. I don't remember much difference in the quality of the sex between our East and West stopovers. |
| pretty unexpected xD |
| I got the impression from the article that men were having a lot less sex in communist countries. If you got rid of a lot of the truly awful sex that women often put up with because they're dependent on a particular man for financial support, then there could still be a lot of bad sex and struggles while *still* being better than what women were going through in non-communist countries where women were slower to get even the nominal rights that women had in the communist countries. |
You'll never live like common people, You'll never do whatever common people do, You'll never fail like common people, You'll never watch your life slide out of view, And dance and drink and screw, Because there's nothing else to do. |
| Sex sucks in the US because of the macho silent type militarized culture where men disrespect women at every opportunity. Look at who is in charge of the country here. |
| Don’t forget religion! They still teach abstinence at local schools |
|
This is a pro communist piece. Yes that’s all we need here for women to have better sex too thinks generic sheep.
Reality, women trade sex even more in communist countries. Europe is more covert. Just look at Latin America and it’s socialists. |
You think the USSR didn’t have a macho militarized culture?! This was the country were everyone reportedly took exercise breaks instead of coffee breaks. Their military was famous for having the best, toughest, most brutal soldiers. Also well known that they were/are very disrespectful of women. Most women I know from former Soviet countries won’t date or marry men from their home country. |
| The ultimate goal for women is for all their income to come from welfare so they can f--- a new bad boy every week without having to put up with a boring provider husband |
