Every evening for a family of 4. I cook from scratch and usually the dishwasher is full. If we eat out, and I skip a wash, the dishes that stay in there for two days dry out and are harder to wash. |
Same, during the week. Weekends usually daily. |
| Family of 3. We wash everything in our dishwasher including pots and pans. At least 2-3 times a day. We have solar and so I don't feel bad using the electricity. |
| Family of 4. Twice a day during the week and once on The Weekend since we eat most meals out on the weekends. |
| Family of 6. We have two dishwashers and we run both of them every day. Sometimes we run one of the dishwashers twice in a day. |
|
Just the two of us and the dishwasher is run every night after we go to bed.
I cook daily and do a full mise en place, so lots of little bowls and small cookware, plus dishes, glassware and serveware. I handwash most pots and pans. Our dishwasher sucks, so if I left everything to sit in it for two days I'd just have to wash it all over again. |
Do you prepare all or most of your meals at home? And do you all use reusable dishes for lunch? If so, I'm not seeing how you run he dishwasher twice a week unless you are hand washing most everything. Our family of 5 runs it every night, occasionally twice a day. We hand wash pots, but I think one of my teens uses 11 glasses a day on average. |
| Once a day, family of 5. |
| 5-7 times a week, family of four |
| Family of four. No firm rule about it running before bed - we run it when it's full. Slightly more than once a day on average. |
|
It's currently just me most of the time, and I run the dishwasher about once per week. It isn't full after a week, but I don't want dishes sitting in there much longer than that because mold grows.
When SO is here, we run the dishwasher about once every 5 days. When my parents visit, I need to run the dishwasher every 1-3 days. |

Family of 4: every other day |
What's the harm. Another fam of 4 who runs it at least once a day. Occasionally another. We have a very different philosophy than you do though. More of a, "oh there's an extra space let's find something big we dont feel like hand washing tonight" |
| Family of three. Once a day. We definitely don’t generate enough dishes for two runs. Pots and large bowls/Tupperware are hand washed. |

Family of four. We almost never eat out, but we also use an occasional paper plate when dishwasher is full and we realize that and don’t want to have plates in the sink overnight. We also run pots and pans through the dishwasher.
We run the dishwasher at least once a day. Occasionally twice a day. I would put our average at 10x a week. |
