Last I heard it wasn't even going to have a playground and they were saying they would walk the kids up the rec to play. which is actually way too far for young kids and 20-30 minutes they get outside. HOPEFULLY they will come up with a better option and or creative outdoor play space on sight. The area isn't going to stay as quite and suburban as it is now with all the planned development on the Catholic hospitals property. It isn't all that walkable from the metro but does offer a bus line a few blocks away. The location is definitely catering to the neighbors and those with private transportation though not that different than any of the other ward 5 charters.

Current MV family here. The kids get a bit over an hour for recess, not 20 to 30 minutes.

We love the school. On our second year there. New principal listens to families. The playground being off site means the kids get used to walking places and you’ll see your little ones walk longer and longer distances without whining. They usually spend over an hour outside. Mundo Verde allots way more than 30 minutes to recess.

There is a lot of creative play that can happen in green space or nontraditional play space. They may also be able to do something small like ITS out front. They have also talked about using green space and play areas that might be developed with the other area developers. Last I heard a small playground was part of the housing development across from the hospital. There may also be community space to come in the long run with the hospital development. I mean nothing wrong with jump ropes, kick ball, four square or a small play structure etc for play time.
