I disagree. We all interpret data exactly the same way --- as proving our preconceptions.

Can't argue with you on that one

Big, big Obama supporter I am. Not I or anyone in my family would waste the time to vote for Deeds. He sucked and deserved his loss. His only platform was based on a 20year old thesis

Yep, Deeds was not a great candidate.

Agreed. In fact, I still don't know what his stance was on anything. All he did was attack McDonnell and that got old...real quick.

At least McDonnell had a plan - whether you agree or disagree with his plan(s) at least he had something.

If it makes you feel good to say that, then by all means, say it. However, saying it will not make it true. Deeds did not run as an Obama Democrat. He said he would opt out of a public option health insurance plan and distanced himself from Obama in other ways. Therefore, Obama supporters had little interest in supporting him. As a result, the electorate was older and whiter than it was a year ago.

In the one race where conservatives really did try to make an issue of Obama, NY-23, their candidate lost. Should we blame that on Sarah Palin since she endorsed the loser?

This was definitely part of the problem.

Posters like 1501 admit he/she didn't bother voting for Deeds and Deeds was obviously hoping to clench those Obama supporters. Looks like the strategy failed.

As for the "election was all about Obama" quote: depends on whom you ask. Some voters wanted to send a message, others felt this was merely state issue (Virginia economy, Virginia traffic/schools, Virginia taxes, Virginia jobs, etc.), and still others find that Obama and Deeds would be like comparing apples and oranges (especially when it came to campaigning).

That's fine and I want him to succeed, but to succeed with the correct policies, not the wrong ones. I think if you ask what the congressional approval numbers are you might find something very different. Just saying...

I don't know the numbers for VA Congressional districts, but generally, approval numbers for both Republican and Democratic members of Congress are lower than Obama's numbers. Two Congressional elections were held yesterday. Democrats won both of them. One of those was in a district in which Republicans had held the seat since the civil war. So, at the Congressional level, things look pretty good for Democrats.

Nancy? Is that you?
