Can you bless your own house and religious items or only a priest can do this?

You can smudge sage it yourself .

It's amazing that people have no time for the God of creation and Jesus Christ, the savior of mankind, but somehow you believe that malevolent spirits are deterred by throwing some sage around the house.

Most people were posting about prayer not sage. Reading is fundamental.

I wonder if other people have ghosts or spirits and they just don't ear or see them like we do. Has anyone never had uninvited spiritual dwellers?

Lots of people just can't see/hear/perceive them. Some people just seem more in tune. I'm a medium. I see them everywhere. We live in a very diverse spiritual ecosystem. We share this space with all kinds of beings. Think about it this way - dogs can hear things we can't hear. Seeing spirits is no different. Some people just perceive more.

That's a good way to explain it. While I can sense and sometimes see these spirits, I don't engage them. I wonder why they come. I usually focus on getting them to go like flies in the kitchen.

So the prayers don't last forever? You need to pray periodically to ask god to get the demons out again?

Atlantic has an article about exorcism, apparently requests are on a steep rise and belief in the devil has risen sharply.

So it's the devil who's screwing things up! And here I thought God was all-powerful.

The article has nothing to do with house blessings. And please note that the Atlantic will publish anything sensational. If you had bothered to read the piece you would know that notwithstanding the claim of two priests that the number of REQUESTS had gone up, the number of actual exorcisms has not risen sharply. If the author of the piece had done homework they would know that the Catholic Church TIGHTLY controls exorcism. The article does admit there were only 10-15 trained Roman CAtholic exorcists in the entire country a few years ago. Now maybe 100 for the entire US. This is not an epidemic and also has nothing to do with house blessings. https://www.theatlantic.com/magazine/archive/2018/12/catholic-exorcisms-on-the-rise/573943/

The house blessing/saging is a form of exorcism.

Great things to banish dark entities:

Burning sage/cedar/palo santo
Clapping, particularly in corners
Splashing Holy Water
Sprinkling salt on floors and then sweeping/vaccuuming
Reading Psalms
Speaking blessings and prayers over every room

And of course you can do all of these things yourself.

Why do you think the two are mutually exclusive?
