Recommend your 8 seater SUV

I promise you I will not hit a pedestrian. Of all the things in life that I worry about (lots of lots of things) hitting a pedestrian is not one of them.

You need an SUV then, not a CUV (crossover)

I am pretty sure that is the case for drivers who do hit pedestrians. I would be more comforted if you did worry about hitting a pedestrian.

Underpowered and crappy transmission.

Hard pass.

The next size - the expedition- just seems so huge to me. But I guess I’ll get used to it.
The Sequioa (Toyota) is more manageable size wise, but gets bad reviews.

You want the Expedition EL if you want the cargo space + 3 row up. Expedition (regular) has barely any cargo space with the 3rd row. The new Traverse offers more than Expedition or Tahoe with the 3rd row up but the traverse is a 7-seater, not an 8.

I just got a Traverse in July (first time GM owner) and I love it. Mine is a 7 seater but you can get an 8 seater as well. If I had gone with the larger SUV I definitely would have gotten a Lincoln Navigator. My kids were salivating over that one but it was just too big for me. I took all 3 of my tall kids with me for final test drives because I wanted to be sure everyone was comfortable/could navigate the 3rd row.

You're looking at long wheelbase SUV - a Ford Expedition EL, Yukon Denali XL, Suburban, Escalade ESV, etc. Or get a Sprinter Van!

This is correct. If you need a usable third row and lots of trunk/cargo space, there really are a limited number of options. If you can get by with less cargo space, you could try the regular Expedition, Tahoe, Escalade.

For those of you recommending the Atlas, Enclave, Pilot etc, have you ever sat on a long road trip in the 3rd row of one of these vehicles. Kids grow. Often before it’s time to buy a new car. My 14 yr old is 5’8 and still growing. I’m 5’3. The 3rd row of some of these vehicles is uncomfortable fore me. It would be worse for him.

Now, in the Expedition, everyone clamors for the 3rd row. It’s like being able to sit in the way back when we were kids.

Op—get the big SUV. It is so comfortable and there is plenty of room for everyone with all their stuff.

+1. The regular sized Expedition has a really roomy 3rd row. The Expedition EL would have that as well as a lot of cargo space, as does the Suburban.

I'd never buy a Chevy again. Mine has been a lemon and a serious safety risk at times. I cannot wait to get rid of it.

We had a Yukon XL and the whole family preferred the Sienna because there was more space.

This. It's an 8-seat Outback with bigger tires.

I tried the Lincoln Navigator.
It’s huge. And expensive.
But did feel luxurious.
