Why do people eat panera bread

Anonymous
I used to go to Panera often for lunch. There were a lot of places within 5 minutes walking distance from my work. Here were the choices: Panera, Chick Fil A, Chipotle, Pete's A Pizza, and Potbelly. Of these places, where would you have gone? And don't say you wouldn't have gone to any of these places and just been satisfied with your kale smoothie.

I would get a clam and shrimp pizza at Pete’s!

It is someplace my whole family will eat at. It is not burgers. But we might end up there 4 times a year...not a regular thing.

Meaning its plain, but their smoothies are real yogurt and strawberries, not some chemically mix that McD's does (which is delicious, but gives me guilt giving it to my child). So, while we don't eat out a lot, its an option that at least let me pretend that I am giving real food to my children.

Panera hasn't been "real" in like 8-10 years. Wall Street greed has them cutting EVERY corner.

It is because they dropped their St. Louis Bread Co standards.

+1 I’m from STL and it’s totally different there, even today.

Example: DD can get a turkey and avocado sandwich and an apple, and I can get a salad w tomatoes, onion, avocado, hardboiled egg, and chicken. No side. DD has milk; I have unsweetened iced tea or water.

I'm not saying it's a gourmet experience, but it's really not horrible.

Everything is not customizable. I've asked for things to be altered at multiple places and told it's premade. I haven't gone back.

I used to be a fan through 2013ish, but now eat it maximum once a year
1. By the time I get what I want with the half and half combo at least one item (often two) has an up charge — pricey
2. Quality downhill
3. Very crowded; inadequate seating at some locations

I tried it twice in dc and found it disgusting. Then I went to another one out of state and it was actually good.
