I’m surprised. I live in Omaha, and our mass was packed last weekend. Our priest gave a very moving homily addressing the pedophilia and subsequent cover up.

Our priest gave an angry, rousing, damning homily last Sunday. Our main priest has been passionately, forcefully and emotionally speaking out about this from the pulpit.

I can't help but wondering if those who are giving vague, tepid, general or scripted responses to this, especially after the past week, are priests who are part of this abuse culture, either as participants, non celibate gay relationships during their priesthood while condemning others, or one of those priests that looked the other way while atrocities were committed.

Or Some priests give rousing sermons to deflect suspicion.

I doubt it in this case.

I wouldn’t anymore if I were you.

What steps Rome might take on this issue is one thing, but for the survival of the Catholic Churchnin In America, it is time for the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops to have a clear and consistent message on any sexual abuse allegation of a minor TODAY -- The first call will be to the local police to report any allegation off abuse by a priest.". It is time that the conscience of the clerical hierarchy put the interest of the children ahead of their clerical membership or corporate public persona.

The institutional church has failed to understand that it can't be part of the world if it closes itself off to holding all members of "the body of Christ" to the same rules and punishment of society. If you commit a crime, you need to do the time!! An ordained priest, bishop or cardinal can do his penance in jail just like any other adult who commits a similar crime against a child orbteen. If those who preach the gospel of Catholicism can't follow it's tenets , the Catholic Church will not survive.

Were you born yesterday? All of that already exists and was put into place many years ago BECAUSE of the things in the report, which are decades old.
