Catholic-to-Catholic: I'm just so furious at this latest situation with the Catholic Church

I’m a catholic disgusted by this as well. I grew up in pa and prayed for wuerhl each week for years. There was no discussion of this in Sunday mass homily, I emailed our parish priest and did not get a response. Maybe it’s time to move on along with my children.

I’m a Catholic who thinks there’s been more than enough Catholic bashing threads of DCUM already.

We solved the moral dilemma by no longer being part of the Catholic Church. There is no way we could stay and remain a part of an organization that actively covered up years and years of child sexual abuse. I gave the church a second chance when this happened back in 2010. I have no more fuks left for Catholics.

I was raised Catholic and switched to a Christian church as an adult. Sometimes I miss Catholic mass because of the ceremony aspect - the order is well laid out, I like the hymns and so on - so I do attend mass at times. I often wonder if there aren't others like me who just like the very organized process of mass so that's why the stick with going to the Catholic church.

Don’t you mean a Protestant Church? If you were really raised Catholic, you’d know Catholics are Christians.

I’m surprised. I live in Omaha, and our mass was packed last weekend. Our priest gave a very moving homily addressing the pedophilia and subsequent cover up.

There are also nondenominational Christian churches, not only Protestant.

Technically, those are Protestant origin since they are off shoots of Protestantism and not Catholicism or Orthodoxy. The latter two have offshoots as well, but not non-denominational ones.

Not OP here but I want to comment on this. I don’t see this as Catholic bashing at all. This is a matter of Catholics who are struggling and having a crisis of faith. It’s normal to want to talk with others to talk through it and figure things out.

There is absolutely nothing the leadership could say at this point that would be enough. I don't buy the "catholic church is too big to change" excuse. Not acceptable.

Our priest gave an angry, rousing, damning homily last Sunday. Our main priest has been passionately, forcefully and emotionally speaking out about this from the pulpit.

I can't help but wondering if those who are giving vague, tepid, general or scripted responses to this, especially after the past week, are priests who are part of this abuse culture, either as participants, non celibate gay relationships during their priesthood while condemning others, or one of those priests that looked the other way while atrocities were committed.

Here is te problem.

Fernandez arrived in San Antonio in the early 1980s. By 1983, prosecutors had charged him with exposing himself to two young girls in a local swimming pool. A year later, he had begun ritually abusing and raping two young boys in his care, according to a 1988 lawsuit filed by a local family. The abuse continued for two years, the lawsuit claimed.

The priest was never convicted of a crime. Instead the church negotiated a large cash settlement, and Fernandez promptly relocated to Colombia, where he continued working for the Catholic Church. In May, GlobalPost traced him to the picturesque seaside city of Cartagena. He’s currently a senior administrator and priest at a prestigious Catholic university, enjoying all the privilege, respect and unfettered access to young people that comes with being a member of the clergy

The church sent their problem priests to small villages in South America where they continue to rape. What is wrong with the leadership?

Or Some priests give rousing sermons to deflect suspicion.

I doubt it in this case.
