Some posters have pointed out DMV is still racially segregated like south. Just look at the cafeteria workers, security, janitorial personnel - and then the school administrators. |

I'm from the deep south. My DH went to Georgia. I went to Ole Miss. I have a kid who graduated from University of Florida. One who graduated from Ole Miss. One at Georgia. And one at Colorado. Happy to answer questions, OP.
We have lived all over the US (and in several overseas locations). This is the third time we have live in/near DC. This area is much more segregated and racist than anywhere we have lived in the south. It's just hidden behind things like magnet schools, charter schools, private schools, and limited affordable housing. Don't kid yourselves. For all the talk of inclusivity, this is a very, very racially backwards place. |
The cafeteria workers and custodial staff are often Hispanic around here, as opposed to exclusively black, and the administrators and students are racially diverse. I understand the division still exists, but it is quite a different appearance than an area that is exclusively black and white. |
Yes, but are they part of the administrators shaping policies that affect all students - hispanics, blacks, asians, and whites? For example, is TJ racially integrated at all levels, from the ground support staff to the student demographics, to the administrators? |
It's "farther," but that's OK. Signed, a Southern school grad |
That's ok. My kid will be much better educated than me. I didn't go to college lol. Hubby, however, did a few ivy leagues. |
Maybe let them post instead? |

The suburbs around DC and NYC are now the most racially segregated part of the nation. You both win.

Hey troll, it’s “than I”, not “than me.” Think if it this way: complete the sentence by adding the word “am.” Would you say “better educated than me am?” or “better educated than I am”? It’s the latter, of course. |
Right, worse than Mississippi. Do we even need to look at a few basic statistics that destroy this dopey post? Tell us of this racial paradise in Mississippi, please. I’m sure we’re all fascinated. |
Impissible. I still see fading Obama bumper stickers on Range Rovers in N Arlington. |
| OP you’re better off seeking answers to your question off this forum. DCUM thinks anything south of Old Town = plantation in rural Mississippi. Your child will meet hundreds on students from the NE, west coast, etc., at the schools you mention. Moreso if they go to Tulane, Vandy, Emory, or another ‘southern’ private. |
| Wow....lots of bigots out there.... |
| You couldn't pay me to attend a college in the south. |
Yeah, Rice, Vanderbilt, Duke, Davidson, Emory - a real academic wasteland south of the Mason-Dixie line.
