Southern schools

I love all the grammar corrections in this thread.
Defensive lady who never went to college - you should have challenged your son to leave his comfort zone and be open to schools in the South. Teenagers often have a narrow perspective and parents should gently nudge them to expand their horizons.

Defensive lady with no college education here. Thanks for the advice. We did, indeed, "challenge" him, but you can only "nudge" a teen so much. In the end it is his decision. He has some great options even without all those southern schools.

Coming from Tuscaloosa, I was shocked to hear several people claim that Maryland is a southern state, because it falls below the Mason Dixon line. Uh, no.

Also, Roll Tide!

Please, please, please tell me what school in the South or anywhere can be categorized as having "conservative" views? I would send DC there in a heartbeat.

Hampden-Sydney. If your kid is male, you're all set.

Washington & Lee, Christopher Newport, VMI, NC State, Alabama, Auburn, Clemson, Ole Miss, and so on.

There are exactly three decent southern schools. Duke, which is for inveterate d-bags and gives me douche chills just thinking about it, Rice, which is in that hellhole of Houston and seems boring as hell, and Vandy, which is unimpressive in every way imaginable except for the steady stream of felons that emanate from its athletic programs. How can any sane person compare that intellectual wasteland to the northeast, home of HYP and M and AWS and CC and BD and about four dozen other colleges that are demonstrable superior to whatever dumpsterfire yokel-holes you may have created out of necessity down south.

Bless your heart, sugar, you're crazier than a sprayed roach.

Lots of Bigots here!! Lots of common sense people here as well

Glad to see that at least a few people out of an 8 page thread addressed the question from the original poster.

Duke may be in the South, but it is no way a "southern" school. The rest of the description was pretty spot on though...
