Gel nails regrowth looks bad

Let me also point out that the UV light you must stick your hands under to cure the gel polish is also damaging and it can cause skin cancer. I know that you have to maintain them. But it looks like shit after about a week or two. I have plenty of clients that get them done. Also poorly painted nails look like shit.

Okay but people who are not cosmetologists just don't care that much. I have way too much going on to make sure my nail polish looks impeccable at all times.

But by the second week you can see the regrowth part. And I doubt it's as limited as you think it is.

Never done this. Never going to. But elaborate grooming procedures fascinate me so I had a client explaining her nail process to me and she said there is something called a 'fill in' where they add to the bald part near the cuticle. Is this not something everyone does? Are they literally ripping off your whole fake nail/sanding/chemicals every time? How can that be good for your nail?

That is NOT a gel manicure. That is definitely acrylic. I have never had that. I did natural for years until gel was introduced. Gel is applied to your natural nail, just like regular polish. Two coats plus base and top coat...just like regular manicure. Only difference is the drying and removal process. Dry under UV. Remove with gentle filing and acetone "soak." The removal is a pain, but you should use someone who is skilled at this because this is where an inexperienced technician can ruin your nails. What is lovely is that when my manicure is done, there is no drying time...I can grab my credit card out of my wallet and now worry about smudging! And people always compliment me on my nails...sometimes when they are a week old or more. You can't tell the difference until they start to grow out (about two weeks).

Doesn’t regular nail polish grow out around the cuticle too?

Yes, but you can see the regrowth on a regular manicure as well. Plus the chipping within 2-3 days if you do anything but sit on your hands. So what's your point?

Maybe people with gel don't take care of it themselves as quickly because it was expensive so they stretch it out and or/they can't do it themselves.

Do they put something over your hands and fingers to limit the uv exposure only to the nails? Or are your hands just fully exposed in some device?

A decent salon either gives you UV gloves or applies sunscreen.
