Any dog can act normal for awhile.

Yea including OP's little ankle biter.

I'll take my chances with the ankle biter; my neighbor's granddaughter probably would, too. She was clawed by an Akita, another large dog that can be extremely aggressive.
And my daughter was bitten by an ankle biter but never had a problem with the pit mix and the Rottweiler mix she grew up with.

And my nephew was mauled by their golden, while we live happily with our akita. Stop this breed hate nonsense.

Racism against pit bulls? Now I've heard everything. People just adopt them because they feel bad that so many are euthanized. No one actually prefers a pit bull to any of the hundred other breeds. If there were forced sterilization of pits, this problem would solve itself.

Wrong, but go on with your ignorant nonsense. Pits are among the most loyal breeds around.

My next dog was 14lbs and a neighbor's pit bull came up and shook her in his mouth. I think he was trying to play, but just didn't understand his own aggression. That was a pricey surgery. All 3 of those pit bull owners told me their dogs were so gentle and sweet, but they're obviously not.

I wish there was mandatory sterilization of pit bulls. That would solve this problem in a decade or so. Nearly everyone adopting pit bulls could adopt the labs or other dogs that are in the shelters instead. There's plenty of friendly dogs to adopt.

Wow the veiled racism of pitbull hate amazes me.

It's not very veiled usually. There was one mayor who said she wanted to ban pit bulls in order to ban the "types" of people who have pit bulls. Everyone knows what she meant.

OP. If this is a real post and not some trolly way of trying to get the anti-pit people and the normal, non crazy dog people into a fight, may I suggest: Go visit your groomer without your dog one day. In as calm a way as you can, tell her that you know it's not rational but you have a fear of pits. Ask if you can meet her dog without your dog around.

Then just spend a little time with her dog - petting the dog, feeding the dog treats. See how you feel when you don't have such a highly-charged situation - where you aren't dropping your dog off and feeling nervous.

I bet you'll feel fine, and start seeing what the rest of us see - that pits are dogs. And we love dogs.

Shelter and rescues that adopt out un sterilized pit bulls should be heavily fined, at least $1000/occurance.

All rescue animals are sterilized. What are you talking about?
I agree. I couldn't have adopted any dog from the shelter without having it neutered.

+1 Of course the dog is spayed or neutered.

Mandatory s/n laws don't work. And breed specific laws are never the answer.

Pitts kill and maim other dogs on a daily basis.

It is pro dog to be anti pit.

Please take a civil rights course and tour the Holocaust Museum.

Don't ever call dislike of a dog breed racism.

Clawed? Dogs don’t claw people as an attack move.

The dog jumped on her back, she fell to the ground (she's a slightly built 7 year old), and it bit her arm while clawing her back.

Goldens are not typically aggressive dogs. Akitas, Chows, and Pitbulls frequently (not always) are.

German Shepherds can kill. Should we ban those too? I have two GSDs. My groomer loves them. She hates grooming small, yappy dogs with ridiculous bows. The owners have no idea how much she despises those dogs.
