And I hear what everyone is saying about packing my own lunches, but I already pack lunches for 4 kids and I can't bear to pack myself something too. Plus getting up and walking away from my desk is sort of a high point.

You can't bear to pack your own lunch and your kids. Rough life.

That's what I'm saying

OP, if you can pack for 4 kids, you can pack your lunch...stop with the lazy excuse

If OP can afford lunch out and it brings her joy, why shouldn't she buy lunch?

Because she wants to lose weight and eating out for lunch everyday is going to make that hard, especially since she is not willing to eat many salads.

Yeah, op, you mentioned keeping it under 400 calories but some of these options have lots of sodium, fat, sugar, etc

That works out to 500 per meal but I know I go over that for dinner so I’m trying to stay under for breakfast and lunch. Any ideas for things I can buy downtown that will be about 400 calories? So far I’ve found:

Pret lentil soup
Boring salad (no cheese)
Yogurt parfait

I prefer to eat vegetarian for lunch. Wish there were more places that would do egg dishes at lunch.

Thanks for any suggestions!

Just had a chop t chicken salad with officially 350 calories (I switched the dressing to get there). Taste isn’t good, seems filling enough. I didn’t like the price though ...

Not the OP, but thanKs! That looks like a good option for me.

Skip breakfast and enjoy a 700-calorie lunch. You'll save 100 calories and have something substantive.

Packing 4 lunches does not sound fun at all! Since you are trying to lose weight though, it probably would help you to bring your own lunch at least a few days a week. Maybe try to bring at least 2 days and buy 3?

When I am trying to lose weight I make three lunches for the week on Sunday. I find if I make more than that in the beginning of the week, by Thursday the lunches are kind of "blah" and I'm not excited to eat them. Making three lunches sets me on a good path but builds in enough flexibility if I want to eat out once or if I feel like having something different one day.

I find that whenever I eat a lot of soup, even broth based, I retain a lot of water. Restaurants add so much salt to their soups. That's why they taste good! Maybe that Soupergirl would have some good options though? I've never tried it but I've heard its good. Its downtown on 18th and M.

Cava for sure, but that's my once weekly treat out. I'd rather pack and really control my calories. Seriously OP spend your time away from your desk walking in the sun, and spend an extra 5 minutes at home in the morning (or night before) and just pack your lunch. Or if you have all this extra money hire a check to prepare you meals for the week. Bring them and then still walk.
