Because men can naturally conceive babies well into their 80s.

Women in their 50s are too old to have babies.

The fact is, you can either still conceive or you can't. I know plenty of women who were "too old" to have babies at 38, while I'm 51 and haven't even remotely started perimenopause--so technically, I'm not too old. With two kids about to leave the next for college, I really would never want to start over, but I certainly could if I wanted to. I mean, did you even pass biology or your sex ed classes?

So what is your cutoff for men? Or since they can conceive naturally til they die, there isn't one in your eyes?
And should grandparents not be allowed to raise children if something happens to the parent?

There's no cut off. People are just pointing out clear positives and negatives.

Of course grandparents should be allowed to raise their grandchildren if a tragedy occurs. But again, be aware that if the grandparents is older than 55 when the grandchild is born, it is quite likely the child will experience the death of another parent figure while still a child. That is something to consider if there are other options, for the best interest of the child/ren.

My friend was adopted by his mother, who was 54 at the time. She did an amazing job raising him. So, yeah, yay granny moms!

her husband is 39 and i'm sure wanted a kid. i'm sure they used a donor egg. Shady Grove's cut-off for DE is 51, but i'm sure other clinics are different.

It’s not if you still ovulate... at your age your egg quality is so poor that it won’t work. It’s amaxing that some woman are that naive... your eggs are old !!!

Maybe PP meant she could carry a DE baby. Which is plausible for sure.

Certainly she did not think she could just go get pregnant like a 22 year old. That's like saying "I have legs! I can run an ultra marathon!"

Well maybe in bumbf*ck Idaho or wherever you're from that's typical--but here in the big city, I was 44 with 2 2 year olds and had my 3rd at 45. Get over yourself.

The post is about a person who is 10 years older than you having a newborn, but way to make everything about you!

I have no issue with her age, but she is kind of a hot mess... poor kid.

See the thing is lots of grandmothers are raising their grandchildren so I don't see how this is much different. More power to her.

Um, first of all, I'm from NY. Second of all, you completely missed my point. My point was the huge age difference between oldest and soon to be youngest. You seem very defensive about your family planning. Maybe deep down you DO feel like 45 was old to be having a child.
45 is not 54.

I'm so exhausted having a baby/now toddler in my 30s, I can't imagine wanting to do it all over again in my 50s. But I'm not her and she's not me so my preferences/experience don't have anything to do with hers and vice versa.

If you are buying different eggs why wouldn't you just buy a uterus too? I just can't see asking my 54 year old body to carry. Just do the donor eggs, use his sperm, and get a surrogate.

She looks a lot older. I think it’s sun damage, though. I am 51 and very fair too, but I’ve lived under sunscreen and hats and umbrellas all my adult life. My skin looks 20 years younger than hers. Her legs look like my 77 year old mother’s.

But looks aren’t health. If she’s healthy and can do this, more power to her.

Why? She doesn’t look it. I didn’t know she has been married to her Italian husband for 12 years. I lost track of her after the Flavor Flav romance/showmance.

Are you looking at the same woman bc she looks every bit of a good 60 or older.
