I haven't had their blueberry, but this place in Arlington has very good pies:

They make great pies but the fruit pies are not the sweetest (I say in a sad way).

As a regular fruit pie baker, it's the cherry (sour cherry) pies that are the most sought after among our friends and the most requested pie.

OP: I have mixed feelings on blueberry pies. When the blueberries are tart the pie can be wonderful. If the blueberries are not tart, it can be just sugary and bland.

Many people add tapioca or too much cornstarch to the blueberry filling to prevent it and I don't like that either. Then you have the people who don't like a lot of liquid in their pies and blueberry pies can be very liquidy.

I'd suggest that blueberries are perhaps the most difficult pie to pull off successfully. If it's not well done, it can be meh.

This. I do love blueberries as part of a fruit blend -- I once had an amazing peach-blueberry pie--but the blueberries have to be tart. A lot of blueberries are huge but basically flavorless, and then you just have a big, mushy, bland pie that stains everything.

And sour cherry pie is my favorite!

That’s funny. If this is the same place I’m remembering (I’ve only been 2-3x), I found their wares way too sweet.

I hate blueberry pie. I don't really know why because I like mixed berry pie. I hate cherry pie too. Both are just too gloppy.

Because the texture is vile. I also hate cream cheese frosting.

Blueberry pie can be divine though. Unless it has too much pectin or is too gooey.

I've never had a really good store-bought blueberry pie, usually because there is lots of sauce and very few blueberries. I add NO water to my blueberry pie filling, just sugar, butter, lemon juice and cornstarch. It's pretty much solid berries. Same for jam (pectin, no cornstarch) and chutney.

Blueberry pie can be pretty good when you make it with local, wild berries (the little ones that are blue all the way through) and don't over thicken, but I would go for strawberry/rhubarb or peach first.

I love blueberry pies (so long as it’s not that fake canned crap).
Trader Joe’s actually has a decent one.
Epicurious has a good one that is a blueberry sour cream custard pie (solves the runny problem).

My least favorite fruit pie is peach—I love peaches but cooked peaches somehow get a bitter taste. I want to love it but I don’t.

Yes, as a baker cherries are my least fav to work with. Blueberries on the other hand are my favorite! I love a blueberry/cranberry combo
