Ah I see. Makes sense. I think I want to feel like I gave it a try but most definitely within reason (of course this varies per couple), so I'm inspired by the clear limits you set! |
| I would, and plan to, if it didn't involve a full fresh cycle. We have embryos from the last kid's cycles, and we do plan to use them later on. I don't think I could justify a full cycle though (but I've been through like 8 fresh cycles so enough is enough). |
| No. |

Only you can answer this one OP. Everyone has different thresholds ($, emotionally, physically) that they are willing to put themselves through to have kids.
I can speak for myself that I was willing to do whatever it took for DC#1. We were successful with IVF. For DC#2 the plan was FET with our embryos. If the FETs failed, I would probably have considered IVF. Well we ended up trying some IUIs and got pregnant on the 2nd try. For DC#3 I am not sure yet. Ask me when DC#2 is about 2 years old I am torn about wanting to go back for the embryos. THen another part of me thinks we could maybe get pregnant naturally (I know, I can't believe I still hold out hope for this, we've been trying for 8+ years!). Since I am still on the fence about even wanting a third, I think my approach will be to try naturally for about 2 years and see what happens. If it becomes evident during that time that I really, really want another then we will do a FET.
Good luck! |
Got my results. All abnormal. Moving on to plan b. Good luck to you. |
| My #2 and #3 are twins from an IVF cycle. If I had any frozen embryos, I would definitely consider doing a FET in the future, but at this point I doubt we'd go for another IVF cycle. My first child was the result of an IUI. I felt worse on the medication for the IUI than I did for the IVF. We moved to IVF from IUI for a reason and if we did decide to try again, IUI wouldn't suddenly become a viable option again for us. |
Thanks... how old are you may i ask? |
I'm sorry to hear. Thanks for the update and for sharing-- it will inform my decision making! |
how many kids are you hoping for in total? |
Always wanted 4, but feel incredibly blessed with the three we have. Age wise I'd have to move on it now if we wanted to do another cycle, but the twins are not yet one and I am not yet ready to consider another pregnancy. |
| I did IVF for a third because we had embryos left so we did four frozen cycles and none of them worked. Now I am 41 and deciding if we should go for a fresh cycle but I am not sure we will for all the reasons laid out here. At some point it feels like we are taking money from the kids we have for the hope of one that might never happen |
would you consider IUI? I'm 34 but will be paying everything out of pocket. our first and only cycle was covered by insurance so i'm almost thinking we can just try one IVF cycle and then end there. but as we all know, it can become sort of an addiction. an addiction to hope but an addiction nonetheless. |
| PP back. We tried multiple IUI's for our second child and they never worked so I don't think its worth the money |
Were the twins a result of one embryo splitting or did you put in two? |
|
Just started an FET cycle today for a 3rd child. Both of our prior daughters were IVF, FET babies. We were blessed with an amazing abundance of embryos during our full IVF cycle for #2. So, having a third was always in our mind once we were ready... DC2 is now 2.5 years old.
Unfortunately, our insurance no longer covers any expense. So, we were struck by that. But, we decided to pay OOP for atleast one or two FETs. It is an unanticipated expense that will impact other financial decisions this year but one we are willing to take to see whether our embryos are our 3rd child. I'm not sure we would have started again if we didn't have the embryos given the added expense and our content with our lovely daughters and their future. This is such a personal decision with so many factors to consider. Good luck! |
