Used gear as shower gift - tacky?

I have never, ever received, given or seen given/received a used item for a shower. I don't know that "tacky" is the right word, but certainly strange.

I would say that I would -and did- welcome many used items for my child. ANd, handed things off to others. It just would not be AT THE SHOWER. I would make that offer separately ("Do you have an XXX? If not and you want one, I have one I would be willing to give/loan you. Just let me know.")
