This cracks me up. |
Maybe they should put up the statue in PG County, because that's where Barry's real economic impact was felt. Many of the cronies, leeches and hangers-on who got favored DC 'consulting' and no-show contracts during the Barry era all moved to Prince George's. Barry didn't help DC's poorest very much, and he certainly didn't help economic development in his adopted ward of Southeast in the years he served on the DC Council. Indeed, developers stayed away from SE in part because of Barry's reputation. |
Well the Wilson building is in NW so I guess there was a compromise. |
| PG aka Ward 9 is just over the border from South East. |
| Toronto had its own crackhead mayor. Is he getting a statue? |
|
First Trump and now the Marion Barry, Jr. statue. People in this country have gone insane.
Though they may have voted for it, you cannot tell me that one single woman on the council really, truly, supports this idea. |
| That's good news! He contributed a lot to Blacks in the city. Let's not choose one moment in his life and let it define him. What if someone chose one moment in your life to define you? |
He sullied the city during four decades of public life and nearly brought DC to ruin when he was mayor. Those are a lot of negative moments to define him by. |
| He brought nothing but shame on this city. |
| This is embarrassing. |
| Please tell me most council members are boycotting this event? |
No, it's not. Barry didn't even know how many people "worked" on the DC government payroll when he was mayor. Arguably, Barry did have a role in building a middle class in PG, thanks to a lot of crony government contracts and no-show jobs that he made possible. How that helped the poor in Washington, DC is a good question. |
| Still going up and still getting dedicated despite the sour grapes. Oh well |
| He's the same mayor that basically ordered MPD to hire any local Joe off the street as long as he was black, how did that work out for the city again? |
That's when many MPD recruits failed the police exam multiple times. Some even had criminal records. Thugs with guns, people used to say. |
