Why do you think it was a mean girl smirk and not a "why do these little kids have to carry so much stuff in their giant bookbags" grimace? Or a "we're almost through!" half-smile. Or an "I am so worried about the math test I have to take as soon as I get inside of the building" stress smile? Do you have experience with the girl where she treats kids badly? Is this because you think she should have been doing something other than she was, and her smile sent you over the edge? |
Sounds like he handled everything just fine. OP is the one who was hurt by the fifth-grader's smile. |
Do you have anything better to do than to be a troll? |
| Did you ever consider that the patrol was not as focused on your son and his backpack as you were, and her smirk to her friend had to do with something completely unrelated to him? Especially since the way you described it sounds like a look between friends, not one that involved getting your son's attention at all? |
| LOL. Your son won't be any better when he gets to her age. Let it go OP. |
Those kids need to learn how to conduct themselves. They clearly lack respect and character. By fourth grade, they should have both -or at least know how to fake it in public. |
Kids these days, huh? Why, in my day...

I would have just calmly explained to her that she is ‘here to help the other children’ and let it sink in.
If you don’t want to do that, call the teacher that supervised the patrols and have a chat. That teacher will then talk to this girl. She is young but she can learn - just help her by doing one of these two things. |
What? No - you’re supposed to raise your children, not ‘let everything go’ and release self absorbed useless assholes on the world. |
Such BS - yes, let’s second guess our ‘read’ of a 5th grader because that is ‘oh so complicated’ (really?) and just curl up into a little ball of self doubt and do nothing. Have you ever thought of becoming an adult? |
The only thing that would "sink in" would be what a loon OP is. Odds are this girl wasn't reacting to OPs kid AT ALL but OP thinks everything revolves around her precious peanut. And a smirk? A SMIRK? Do you know how many peoples completely normal, non-sarcastic, authentic SMILES can look like a smirk to a stranger. OP needs to get the heck over herself. |
OP, go put your head between your knees and take a deep breath. You need it. |
Are you even a parent? Smirking hardly makes a 10 year old a self absorbed asshole and if you think smirking is unusual for 10 year olds you've not spent any time with one. And if you are a parent you are headed for a major parenting fail if you think regulating every one of your kids moods and expressions is going to magically make them wonderful - most likely it is going to make them hate and rebel against you at worst and at best just tune you out. Please post in 10 years and let us know how your kids turned out, if they even still speak to you. |
HA! Then OP would get a call from the principal about harassing 4th grade girls. Rightfully, because OP would be acting like a lunatic. |
Before or after they were called to the principal's office and read the riot act? |
