Am I the only officially furloughed employee that has to report to work today?

We had to return laptops, phones, etc. Government property.

I can only speak for the shutdown in 2013 -- we didn't have to stay the four hours. We were allotted four hours but if you didn't need that long - you didn't stay

Depends on your management, I left after one. I'm not a manager and didn't have much to do.

I was told I did not have to come in.

Though DH did go in. He had not been given any notification and was hoping he could work for 4 hours...or they would vote at noon and he could stay all day.

You can’t just do normal work for 4 hours. You can code your time sheet for up to 4 hours of work time for shutdown activities. We’re not even allowed to use that time to cancel meetings or let people know we’re shutting down (other than voicemail/out of office).

Every office has different rules. Might be fine at his office.

what does this mean?

That means you go to work on Tuesday which, usually, comes after Monday.

why would I go to work on tuesday if the government is shutdown? People are talking about going in today to do shutdown activities.

Reading is fundamental.

Perhaps explaining is fundamental. So you're going to work on tuesday? Good luck with that.

This must be office by office. Our shutdown checklist included "check with your supervisor about whether to contact others to reschedule upcoming meetings."

I can't believe adults function like this. It's so incredibly prescriptive!

Yep I was told to wrap up real work 9am-12 noon and then log off. However I am doing this remotely and signed my papers via email so did not have to go in. People in my own dept were told a bunch of different things.

They also spoke about daycares in federal offices that were closed. This is a problem for the non-fed parents who have kids in federal daycares, because those parents still have to work!

Traffic is lighter however, so yes, lots of people are staying home today.

That was not my experience during the last shutdown. We had to keep paying for daycare whether or not we used it. This was precisely because there were people who still needed it because not every employee was a fed or a furloughed fed. in addition the daycare workers were not feds and would be facing a more dire hardship since they would not be eligible for back pay once the budget passed. I had no problem paying. Those workers care for our children and unlike us, didnt get paid if they didnt work.

THanks -- why would you comment on someone's question and not copy it into your reply? Otherwise its just a random post. Sorry we aren't all as completely obsessed with DCUM to sit and figure it out.
