Advice on using a name that's already "taken"?

go for it!!! just bc she had babies first doesn't give her sole ownership of the name! if you have always liked it, i say use it!! i know i would if i were in your situation!

I have this same issue. My SIL had a girl first and asked if she could use "my" girl's name. I said fine since we have different last names and live 500 miles apart. Now our family is telling me that I cannot use that name because it is taken, even though I was the one who had picked that name first!

I personally would not want my SIL using a name I had already used.

I agree with the PP, think about how the child would feel. I have the same name as my sister-in-law and it's not fun. It's not a good feeling not having a unique name within your family. Family is forever - she will always be Margaret #2 or Margaret T. or Little Margaret.
