Just found out I landed a new job while my boss was screaming at me

Congrats! That must have been so nice to read. I was in the middle of venting about my job when I got an offer email for a new job. Not quite as satisfying as your story, but a very good feeling!

It was a crappy service job in high school and the boss accused me of doing something I didn't do, and that coworkers had proved to her that I didn't do. She wanted me to write an apology letter and told me that I could return to work when it was complete, but that I would be taken off the schedule until then. I asked if I should leave my shift right then. She said no, that I needed to stay. I smiled, thanked her and stayed to complete my shift.

I never wrote that letter and never went back. The added bonus was that I'd asked for that weekend off- wanted to go camping with friends and was refused. So now I was off and able to enjoy myself.

In addition I had orientations of new staff members lined up for that next week and was their go-to mentor for orientations. They were screwed without me. Later I ran into one of the employees who had been orienting with me. She asked when I was coming back- said the place was falling apart and that the boss had said I had some things I was finishing up and would be back... I smiled and said "do me a favour... keep asking her when I'm coming back..."

you have to love a boss who helps you ghost.

Thank you for sharing this.

Pshaw. I've had good and bad woman managers. And good and bad male managers.

I try to learn from every experiemce. The best ones are secure in what they know and don't know, and are quick to offer praise and ask for help. That is how I strive to act.

Be professional when leaving (although I know it's really hard)

BUT don't give a day more than the required 2 weeks.
and maybe plan a few vacation/sick days in there if you have them. also, don't stay a minute late.

You grinned and the boss was enraged so screamed some more.

And it's the bad ones who are oblivious to what they don't know (but think they do).

This! Exactly what I'm doing at this moment--2 weeks notice with vacation and sick time thrown in. This week vacation, next week, vacation, telework, and sick day.

Congrats, OP!!!

OP here. Boss is finally back in the office. I just responded to a snippy e-mail and asked for a minute (because it's impossible to just knock on her door and ask for one). Happy quitting day!
