| AA female here and I can hands down tell you that I've gotten 100% more attention with my locs than I ever did with my weave. I receive compliments from AA men, young and old, on a daily basis. The longer they grow they more love they are shown, so much so that I am convinced that AA men don't really like weave. |

Black woman with natural hair: I change up styles frequently and attract men frequently. I haven't noticed a difference in attention but I don't really track that anymore.
My SO just likes my hair out, I noticed he's not a fan of my hair pulled back as much. Whatever style it's in, afro, braids, weaves he just wants to see it out and free. I agree you should wear it in a style that seems flattering to you. |
Another black woman PP. I wouldn't say that AA men don't like weaves. I'd say that weaves/long straight hairstyles attract a different kind of man vs. those who go for women with natural hairstyles. |
| Wow! It's so funny reading that people get more attention with straight hair. I've always gotten male attention with my hair straight (I was natural with hair bow dried straight) but got even more attention once I had locs!!!! I've never been called sexy more! By men and women! I've had a male in the friend zone for decades. This guy told me I was 'sexy' and 'hot' AFTER I went with kinky twists then locs. Interestingly he shared with me that while he believes natural hair is best, it really doesn't matter to him what a woman does with her hair-wig, weave, fro-it's whatever works for her. |
+1 Locs were a game changer. |
God, I know my vote doesn't count, because I'm a woman. But I'm a 50 year old white woman who has ALWAYS loved it when black women wear their hair natural. I was in the audience for Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie's book talk this week, and so many women had such beautiful hair. Afro, twists, locks, didi braids, all of it. Gorgeous. |
+2 sure are |
OP here. Wow, I'm loving the love for our natural black hair and curls! Who knew?! Maybe I need to find some better styles for it. On weekends I just wash and go sometimes, or pony puff it. I'll try going to an actual stylist for some new looks. Thanks for the encouragement

I am a white woman with very curly hair post pregnancies, but of course no actual experience. I think the idea of going to a professional to get some advice on what may look best given "your" head shape/features/height may be best - I don't think one answer fits all. That said, I've always done what's most convenient. If I still had to find a man - I'd put in more effort to find out what works best on "me" with respect to the opposite sex. Good luck! |
